Lobster recall overview:

  • Who: Greenhead Lobster Products is recalling all of its lobster produced from May 9, 2023, through October 19, 2023.
  • Why: The lobster listeria recall comes because of the presence of listeria in the lobster processing environment even though none of the lobster has tested positive.
  • Where: The lobster recall is effective across the United States.

Greenhead Lobster Products is recalling all of its lobster produced from May 9, 2023, through October 19, 2023 due to the potential for listeria.

None of the lobster tested positive for listeria monocytogenes but the lobster is being recalled due to the presence of listeria in the process environment, the lobster listeria recall says.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause infections in young children, elderly or those with weakened immune systems that can be serious and sometimes fatal, the lobster recall says.

Healthy individuals can get short-time side effects including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea while listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled Greenhead Lobster Fresh Cooked Lobster Meat was sold frozen or refrigerated in one- or two-pound packages ranging or in 12-pound cases with “best if used by” dates ranging from May 9, 2025, to Oct. 12, 2025, for frozen product, and May 27, 2023, to Oct. 30, 2023, for refrigerated product. The “best if used by” date is located on the white label on the package front.

Lobster was distributed in Maine and New Hampshire before reaching wholesalers nationwide

Greenhead Lobster Products says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The recalled lobster was distributed to Maine in New Hampshire and then sold to wholesale distributors nationwide and sold through e-commerce. Greenhead Lobster Products can be reached at [email protected] between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET.

Don Miguel Foods recently announced a recall for 10,642 pounds of its frozen carne asada burritos after they tested positive for listeria monocytogenes during routine testing.
