Nissan Recall Pickup Trucks Overview:

  • Who: Nissan is facing a recall of its 2022 Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed pickup trucks.
  • Why: The pickup trucks were assembled without a tow hitch, posing the potential risk of fuel tank damage and leaks in the case of a rear collision.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

A production error that saw Nissan’s 2022 Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed pickup trucks assembled without a tow hitch has led the company to recall 22 vehicles over fears of potential fuel tank damage and leaks.

Nissan North America, Inc., issued the recall notice saying that without the rear tow hitch, in the event of a rear collision, affected vehicles could experience leaf spring contact with the fuel tank.

“This contact could potentially result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of injury,” the company states. “There is no preceding warning.”

Nissan says in September it found that the tow hitch package had not been installed on 50 Frontier vehicles due to a parts shortage, and it reached out to dealers to make sure tow hitches were attached before any further vehicles were sold. In November, the automaker issued the recall for the remaining 22 vehicles to install the tow hitch.

Dealers will install the tow hitch, relays and associated wiring free of charge.

Nissan says it will notify all affected vehicle owners by Dec. 16.

Nissan Has Faced Two Other Recalls This Year

Earlier this year Nissan had to issue a recall for more than 47,000 2021 Rogue SUVs after discovering the vehicles could have faulty tether wires that might not hold a child car seat in place during an accident. The recall notice said 47,098 of Nissan’s 2021 Rogue SUVs manufactured in the company’s Smyrna, Tennessee, plant from Sept. 23, 2020, to Apr. 20 of this year were affected by the recall.

In October, a $277.7 million class action settlement agreement between Nissan and car owners who allege the company sold vehicles with defective transmissions was conditionally certified by a federal judge.

The settlement will be split between a Class of 2014-2018 Nissan Rogue owners and a Class of 2015-2018 Nissan Pathfinders and 2015-2018 Infiniti QX60 vehicle owners.
