More than 70 tons of chicken patty products sold at Costco are being recalled as they may contain pieces of hard, clear plastic.
In a recall notice published Oct. 29 on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website, Foster Farms says it recalled about 148,000 pounds of fully cooked, frozen, breaded chicken breast patty products produced on Aug. 11, 2022.
The affected products are 80-oz. plastic bag packages containing 20 pieces of “Chicken Patties Breaded Chicken Breast Patties With Rib Meat” with best-by date “08/11/23,” establishment number “P-33901” and lot code “3*2223**” printed on the back of the packaging.
Costco frozen chicken patties sold nationwide
Foster Farms notified FSIS it received consumer complaints reporting hard clear plastic embedded in their frozen chicken breast patties.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury associated with eating the patties so far, but FSIS believes the hard plastic pieces could be sharp and possibly cause an injury, the recall states.
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and retailers are urged not to sell them,” the Costco frozen chicken patties Recall states. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
The affected patties were shipped to Costco distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah and Washington and may have been further distributed to Costco retail locations nationwide, the recall notice states.
Meanwhile, a class action lawsuit filed in August alleges Costco falsely advertises and labels its tuna products as being “dolphin safe,” despite using fishing methods that seriously injure and kill dolphins.
