Nissan recalled certain 2020-2022 Sentra vehicles as they may have tie rods that can break, causing a loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website published the recall Aug. 15. It applies to 236,238 model-year 2020-2022 Sentra vehicles.

According to the recall, the tie rods, which connect the steering gear to the wheel, may bend.

“A bent tie rod can break and cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall states.

Dealers to replace tie rods free of charge, Nissan recall states

Owners should contact their dealer for transport assistance if they experience an off-center steering wheel or vibration, the recall states.

As an interim repair, dealers will inspect and replace any bent or broken tie rods free of charge. Once newly designed parts are available, dealers will replace both tie rods, the Nissan recall says.

The automaker expects to mail interim letters Oct. 5, 2023, and a second letter once the final remedy is available.

In March, Nissan issued a separate recall for more than 700,000 of its Rogue and Rogue Sport vehicles over concerns they were equipped with defective jackknife keys that could cause a driver to inadvertently turn off the vehicle while it is in use.

10 thoughts onNissan Sentra recall initiated due to potential steering defect

  1. Bill says:

Brought 2012 sentra in for recall. Denied because tie rod not bent. Car shakes while driving. Their solution was 3k repair to install new steering rack. Local mechanic states only tie rod needs replacing. Ordered part from 10 online vendors. Part not available anywhere. Dealership wont even order part for me. Pointless anyway part is on back order for months now. Would love to see class actiion lawsuit. First and last Nissan will ever buy

  6. Howard Pickard says:

    My 2020 NISSAN SENTRA
HAS HAD STEARING ISSUES SENCE WE PURCHASED IT IN MARCH OF 2020..THE STEARING WHEEL IN ABOUT 1″ OF CENTER..IT RIDES LIKE A TANK TERRIBlE RIDE YOU must be careful and keep both hands on the wheel .
    I would never buy another
NISSAN. The service department charged me to replace the tie rod b4 the recall. I would rather have a KIA.

  7. Erica Matthews says:

    Add me

  8. Tina says:

So drivers gotta wait till they feel vibration or oddities in steering before they can have their vehicle inspected?! That doesn’t completely freak u out & worry u when driving a Sentra in this year range good grief…id think being proactive is a better option than waiting till sum1 notices something’s awry in the vehicle steering column cuz that sounds like things could go from bad to super dangerous or deadly if waiting to long or URS just happens to snap off faster than say another vehicle from being driven harder etc idk just sounds a bit scary.
