Mazda recall overview:

  • Who: Mazda has recalled more than 150,000 vehicles.
  • Why: The vehicles are equipped with faulty modules and software that can cause various issues, including stalling and power loss.
  • Where: The Mazda recall is active in the United States.

Mazda has recalled more than 150,000 vehicles due to a trio of issues affecting newer CX-90 and CX-70 vehicles.

The largest Mazda recall involves more than 80,000 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 hybrid vehicles equipped with a faulty Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU).

According to the recall notice, improper software in the powertrain and engine control modules may cause malfunction indicator lights to illuminate under certain driving conditions, potentially activating a “failsafe mode” that limits the drive power.

“Loss of drive power may increase the risk of a crash,” the recall states.

During vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360° view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly, the recall says.

If the defect occurs, the malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate, indicating to the driver that their vehicle needs to be serviced.

The second Mazda recall affects more than 30,000 2024 CX-90 hybrid and 2025 CX-70 models. The models have a software problem affecting the powertrain control modules and engine control modules. According to the NHTSA recall report, the issue can cause a loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash.

The third Mazda recall affects more than 38,000 2024 CX-90 models equipped with the affected powertrain control module, engine control module and battery energy control module. The issue can cause the vehicle to stall while idling from an auto engine stop.

To fix the issues, owners will need to take their affected vehicles to a Mazda dealership for free repairs. Starting Dec. 30, impacted owners will be notified via mail.

In February, Mazda issued a recall of more than 43,000 of its model year 2024 CX-90 vehicles over concerns they contain a steering wheel defect that may increase the risk of a crash.

“Yes, I had battery issues within the first 90 days. Now I’m dealing with sensor problems. A small scratch or random rock on the road can damage a sensor—and it’s $600 to replace each time. Honestly, this feels like one of the worst purchases I’ve ever made.”

  2. Michael McNulty says:

Our CX90 has suffered all the above issue plus 48 volt battery failure, paint failure, head lamp failures…. We have been in a loaner car since December 2024 waiting on replacement battery. Told 100K cars are also waiting battery replacements

  3. Hope Carr says:

Mazda needs to do a recall on the 2023 cx-5 for headlights. I had to have my compliete headlight replaced at only 43K miles and it was $1800.. and ive heard of others having the same humming issues.
