Fresh Express Incorporated recalled a number of salad kits as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall April 7. It applies to Fresh Express Caesar Chopped Kit, Fresh Express Chopped Kit Chipotle Cheddar and Publix Makoto Honey Ginger Salad Kit. The recalled salad items carry Product Code GO75 and use-by dates of March 31 or April 2, 2023, located on the front of the package

According to the recall notice, Fresh Express voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of the three varieties of already-expired branded and private label salad kit products produced at the company’s Morrow, Georgia, facility out of an abundance of caution due to a possible health risk from listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products are no longer available for sale, and no illnesses have been reported to date, the company says.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Fresh Express salad tested positive for listeria, recall says

Fresh Express initiated the recall when it learned a random sample test of a single salad kit collected by the Georgia Department of Agriculture yielded a positive result for the listeria pathogen, the company says.

It distributed the recalled products through retailers in the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Fresh Express instructed retailers to remove the recalled products from all inventories. Consumers who have the recalled products in their refrigerators should not consume them and can dispose of them. Refunds can be collected at place of purchase or by contacting the company.

In related news, in February, Fresh Ideation Food Group recalled more than 400 ready-to-eat food products from retailers across multiple states as the products had the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
