Costco recalled about 350,000 Ubio Labs power banks as they can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall Aug. 17. It applies to Ubio Labs power banks, sold in either single or double packs, with model number PWB1071 printed on the back.

According to the notice, the recalled power banks can overheat and ignite, posing a fire hazard.

Costco received three reports of fire, including one report of fire on a commercial flight, resulting in four reports of smoke inhalation and one report of a minor burn injury to passengers, the power bank recall states.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Costco offers full refund, power bank recall states

Costco sold the recalled power banks at its stores nationwide and online at www.costco.com from March 2019 to Dec. 2020 for the single pack, costing about $32, and from Sept. 2018 to Dec. 2020, for the double pack, costing about $40.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and contact Costco for a full refund, the recall notice states. Ubio Labs is no longer in operation.

Costco contacted all known purchasers directly.

Power banks can often overheat, resulting in fire or injury risk. In March, Fantasia Trading recalled more than 42,000 Anker Power Banks for this reason.
