Menards store and parking lotMenards has been hit with a class action lawsuit by consumers who claim that the home improvement company offers a delusive rebate program.

Plaintiff Amy Childers says she visited the Menards website to purchase fence panels during an advertised “11% Off Everything” promotion.

After she completed her purchase, she allegedly downloaded the rebate coupon that corresponded to her purchase from the Menards’ Rebate Center online. She then filled out the coupon and mailed it to the address listed on the website.

Childers says she waited the six-to-eight week period for the rebate to be processed but did not receive anything in the mail from Menards.

Then, in December 2018, she was told her purchase did not qualify for the 11 percent off rebate because the items she purchased were on sale and therefore did not qualify.

Childers claims the fact that the items were on sale, and thus ineligible for a rebate, was not disclosed to her prior to her purchase. In addition, she says she didn’t see any language informing her that her purchase was not eligible for the rebate at any time during her purchase.

“Menards breached its contract with Childers by failing to send the rebate checks to Childers at all, or by failing to send the full amount promised,” the Menards class action lawsuit states.

The plaintiff says Menards created the mail-in rebate program to “reduce the issuance and redemption of rebates.”

Also, the Menards class action notes that Menards intentionally and systematically fails to pay the 11 percent rebate to those who have followed the correct process of attempting to obtain the rebate.

“Menards’ rebate process systematically denies its customers the full value of the rebates that they earned by following the terms of Menards’ rebate program, purchasing items during the rebate promotional period, and timely submitting the required rebate paperwork,” the plaintiff states.

The Menards class action wants Menards to stop its “unfair, deceptive and illegal practices,” which includes its misrepresentations of its rebate program. The plaintiffs also want Menards to provide the rebates to those who have dutifully followed the rebate process.

The Menards class action lawsuit also claims that the company’s rebate program is “the best of both worlds” as they can sell their items at full price knowing that numerous customers will never receive the rebates to which they are entitled.

“Menards’ rebate process is designed to deny rebates that its customers earned by the terms of its rebate program after purchasing items during the rebate promotions and timely submitting the required paperwork,” claim the plaintiffs.

The Menards class action point to hundreds of online complaints about Menards’ rebate program and state that after customers send in their rebate forms, they have no way of tracking their specific rebates. They state that the only way to contact Menards is through an online form or a P.O. Box number.

On 6/20/23 sent in approximately 104.00 in rebate receipts. On 7/21/23 was issued 74.41. That a 29.59 loss to ME. This is the second time of more than a 25.00 loss. Before this its only been 5 to 10.00 of loss.

I have sent in for rebates multiple times, at least 10-15 times, and never received them, from Menards. I currently have a $507.86 rebate receipt that I sent in on time, and the rebate tracker shows that it doesn’t exist. We did a large remodel a couple of years ago and spent upwards of $30,000 at Menards, much of which qualified for the 11% rebate program, and never received a single rebate after sending them all in as per the rules.

    June 10/23.
I had my house remodeled last fall, September/October/22. I bought everything at Menards, spent thousands of dollars and with every purchase, I sent the rebate form. Never received a penny. I shop there, because it’s the only store near my home..

Menards can say they mailed them, but where are they? Can they look into the possibly they are being stolen? Surely they can see if they are being redeemed? Menards, please help your customers with a better rebate program OR give us the discount AT THE CHECK OUT.

Refurbished bathroom items ordered were not as displayed & Menards did nothing. Sent rebate in $380 & no refund. Should be held accountable. They are desieving primising anything & everything & rebates ti customers who keep them in business while they just steal from consumers. Want & need my rebate

If you spell your complaints correctly, they’re much more apt to be taken seriously.

I filed for a rebate on a purchase of $1022.13 on July 27, 2022. I have had zero correspondence. I am not happy and believe they owe me the 11% they advertised and I submitted everything as directed. I have the forms and receipts.

  7. Cheryl young says:

Says my check was mailed 4/14/2023. It is now 5/16/2023 and no rebate. They want the long number and that’s what you send in, so therefore I have no “tracking number”
Every receipt I have is digitally saved in the app but no number to give in that allotted space. I have receipts to send in but going to take a photo of all

  8. Rick Schulz says:

Didn’t receive a large dollar amount rebate. There used to be a way to track my submitted rebates online, but that function is no longer there.

  9. Ron says:

I like Menards as a hardware store but I am very disappointed with their 11% rebate program.

I submitted original receipts with the form and mailed it as instructed by Menards. It’s been 6-7 months since I mailed it and I still have not received a check. I contacted their customer service about 2 months ago, and they confirmed that the check was mailed. Hence, I have not received it, they voided it and mailed another check. However, I am waiting for that 2nd check over two months. it is absolutely unfair and should be illegal business practice across the USA. I am surprised that Menards is not investigated by the authorities since there are so many complaints.

I cannot believe that their two checks that they said were mailed long time ago were allegedly lost without any explanation.

Also, they do not have a phone number to talk to a live person. It’s all through an online form. Shame on Menards for misleading and scamming their loyal customers.

  10. Carol A. Rotert says:

I totally agree with all that is presented above and would like to add 2 additional points: Not only is the 11% not an actual rebate (money returned) but as you pointed out, it is a store credit. And if you have ever actually RECEIVED this store credit, it HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE. Also, the rebate comes in such a way that anyone who is aware of Menard’s program, can easily steal them from the mail and use them as their own. There is nothing secure about the entire process. I have seriously considered filing a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office in Missouri about the Menard consumer fraud, but do not shop there often enough to provide adequate evidence. I have a friend who is a contractor and he claims that when he has a LARGE rebate promised it NEVER reaches his home. He thinks perhaps it is stolen from the mail but from reading the statements above, it appears that Menard’s just never sent it.
