A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, Chase Insurance Agency Inc., Assurant Inc., American Security Insurance Company, Standard Guaranty Insurance Company and Voyager Indemnity Insurance Company (“Chase Defendants”). If you were charged by the Chase Defendants under a hazard lender-placed insurance policy for residential property between Jan. 1, 2008 and Oct. 4, 2013, you may be eligible for a partial refund.
The Chase Bank force-placed insurance settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit (Saccoccio, et al. v. JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, et al.) that alleges that, when homeowners’ insurance policy lapsed or when a homeowner did not maintain a homeowners’ insurance policy that is acceptable to the mortgage lender, the Chase Defendants placed hazard insurance in a manner that allegedly provided them with an unauthorized benefit.
Chase denies the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit, which was preliminarily approved on Oct. 4, 2013.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the Chase Bank force-placed insurance settlement includes all borrowers in the United States who, between Jan. 1, 2008 and Oct. 4, 2013, were charged by Chase Defendants as insureds or additional insureds under a hazard lender-placed insurance policy for residential property.
Potential Award
Class Members who paid the Chase Defendants the charged premium for the hazard lender-placed insurance policy will be eligible for a partial refund or credit in the amount of 12.5 percent of the net premium for the policy.
Class Members who were charged by the Chase Defendants but who have not paid for the policy are eligible for a reduction of what they currently owe.
Proof of Purchase
The only way to receive a partial refund or credit towards what you currently owe from the Chase Bank class action settlement is to send in a complete and accurate Claim Form to the Settlement Administrator within 60 days after the final settlement date.
Claim Form Deadline
60 Days after the Final Settlement Date.
UPDATE: A federal judge granted final approval to the $300 million JPMorgan Chase Force-Placed Insurance Class Action Settlement on Feb. 28, 2014.

I was told we would here something in oct. then dec. now it is pending I guess 2015 or never. this is not fair to us. we are told nothing we have find out thing the best way we can.we are playing old school days games here we go around the murryberry bush so early in the morning.if we owe them money we would be put out by now. it do not take this long to pay us a settlement we will short change any way that’s why it is taking so long.
when are we suppose to receive are refund? and i moved from the time I got the letter about the lawsuit refund so how do I change my address?
you can check the settlement web site http://www.saccocciosettlementinfo.com for info attorneys and #’s needed , good luck :-)
when are we suppose to receive our refund????
I tried to file a claim with my homeowers insurance through Chase. My home was built in 1947 and had tree roots growing up into my galvanized plumbing in my bathroom. They wouldn’t cover any portion of the $10,000 it took to basically gut my whole bathroom and rebuid it. They said is was normal wear and tear.
Big bank wins and little mortgage holders lose , with the huge insurance imposed by JPM , the 12.5% we get back still not enough to fix the mortgage the banks re did to collect their money though escrows they doubled or tripled and we’re forced into paying , some lost homes because of this ,while others lost their original mortgage contracts . And still the extra relief that coming is not found anywhere on court docs or even when calling class counsel they cant tell you that either . Anyone have an answer to this extra relief that’s also coming ?
I was also mortgaged through Chase Bank I noticed on my tax statements that my property number had been changed for years when i filed it never changed what will happen in my case.
We had our H.O. Ins. through a local Agent that was to be paid by Chase from our Escrow.. Our Agents was A-Bradford Plus Ins., Agent name: Becky Dugat, Phone # is (904) 964-2800.. Every year we had to go round & round with Chase to renew our H.O. Ins.. They would always let our coverage lapse until we & our Agent, Ms.Dugat hounded them to pay it.. Finally the last time they let it lapse for almost a year & we were unable to get any kind of H.O.Ins in the state of Florida except for Lords of London or something like that, which happened to be the most expensive Ins. in the state.. We had no choice but to go with their lender placed Ins which was more expensive & a lot less coverage then our original.. I am pretty sure that I can provide documentation if needed.. Thank you for this class action.. Hopefully Chase & other lenders will learn from this..
We had home owner insurance with Chase in the time frame mentioned but how do we find out if we had the hazard LPI? We are no longer mortgaged through Chase x 1 year ago. How do I find out for proof?
