Lasko space heaters class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Juan Velez filed a class action lawsuit against Lasko Products LLC.
  • Why: Velez claims Lasko sells low-profile portable space heaters with defective temperature control boards.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

Lasko Products sells low-profile portable space heaters with defective temperature control boards that cause them to consistently overheat the area they are in, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Juan Velez claims the Lasko portable space heaters are described as being able to automatically control room temperature; however, “a significant percentage of the devices will regularly exceed the set temperature.”

The temperature control feature relies on the temperature control panel and thermostat built into the portable space heater in order to “ensure the temperature matches what the user sets,” according to the Lasko class action.

“The temperature control failures suffer from defects including but not limited to lack of adequate calibration which can lead to sustained elevated temperatures,” the Lasko class action states.

Lasko accused of failing to address customer concerns, not honoring manufacturer warranty

Velez claims “numerous users have documented their experiences with the flawed temperature controls through online forums and customer reviews during the past several years.”

Further, Velez argues Lasko has failed to “adequately address customer concerns” while “not honoring” a promised three-year manufacturer warranty.

Velez wants to represent a New York class and consumer fraud multistate subclass of individuals who have purchased the Lasko low-profile portable space heaters that purport to have automatic temperature control.

Velez claims Lasko is guilty of fraud and unjust enrichment and is in violation of New York General Business Law, multiple state consumer fraud acts and the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief and an award of monetary, statutory and/or punitive damages for himself and all class members.

Also this month, LG was hit with a class action lawsuit accusing it of selling electric ranges with defective knobs that can cause them to turn on unintentionally.

The plaintiff is represented by Spencer Sheehan of Sheehan & Associates PC.

The Lasko space heaters class action lawsuit is Velez, et al. v. Lasko Products LLC, Case No. 1:22-cv-08581, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The Lasko ceramic electric tower space heater started spewing white powder and nitrogen dioxide gas and filled up the camper. I can’t get rid of the nitrogen dioxide gas I don’t know how. It made me sick for two weeks. Can I be part of this class suit? My camper was easily worth $10,000 used and now it’s like a toxic waste site.
