Generac SnapRS class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Dustin Moon filed a class action lawsuit against Generac Power Systems Inc.
  • Why: Moon claims Generac sells dangerous and defective solar panel PWRcell Systems containing faulty SnapRS (rapid shutdown) unit components.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

Generac Power Systems sells defective and dangerous solar panel PWRcell Systems containing faulty SnapRS (rapid shutdown) unit components that fail in their job to rapidly shut down power to individual solar panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Dustin Moore claims the SnapRS units in Generac’s PWRcell Systems are meant to protect against electric surges, but, instead, are prone to malfunctioning by becoming overactive.

Moore argues the Generac SnapRS units, after becoming overactive, can begin to “overheat, bubble, burn and explode, resulting in charring and home fires.”

“Generac’s SnapRS units are defective and dangerous to consumers and their homes,” the Generac class action argues.

Moon wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased, leased, or otherwise acquired a Generac PWRcell System containing an allegedly defective SnapRS unit.

Generac has failed to disclose alleged defect to consumers, says class action

In addition to allegedly failing to rapidly shut down power, Moore claims the alleged defect leads to a “loss of energy production” by ultimately “shutting down entire panels for prolonged periods of time or complete shutdowns of their entire energy system.”

Moore also argues Generac failed to disclose to consumers that its SnapRS units are allegedly defective, while neglecting to recall them, provide refunds or offer consumers “adequate replacement components.”

“Despite that it knew or should have known of this Defect, Generac failed to disclose this Defect to Plaintiff and other consumers,” the Generac class action states.

Moore claims Generac is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty and is in violation of California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, Unfair Competition Law and Consumer Legal Remedies Act

The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

In November, Generac reannounced it was recalling more than 325,000 of its portable generators after it said it received additional reports of finger injuries — including amputations — caused by an unlocked handle on the generator.

GENERAC Solar panels system RF snaps caused house fire. The Roof is destroyed. Water damage from firefighters throughout the house.

  2. Joe Romero says:

Please add to class action lawsuit. We paid $57000 over 2 years ago and it has never worked properly

  3. Preston Snider says:

Please add me. I spent $89,000 in on this worthless system. It has been one of the worst performing, least maintained, dangerous/deadly systems on the market. I’ve had multiple snapRS devices catastrophically fail. The solar company will no longer accept my calls, and Generac completely refuses to help the consumer. I want my money back for this system and compensation for replacing my roof after the last SnapRS caught fire. I am afraid for my family and the lives of others who are now at risk of losing their homes or lives due to Generac.

  4. Brandon Long says:

$61,000 i paid for my system and it saves me a measly $30 a month…. i was lied to about everything when it came to this system. I feel like i was scammed by both the solar company and generac

  5. Theadore Rawlings says:

Power Solar Home installed mine. Everything the salesperson said to lme was a complete and utter lie. Then when they finally began to install them after 2 months of waiting, they had us wait another almost 2 months to finish it. They left a hole in my ceiling during that period in which it was in December. My hvac system soon broke after this. Now, Power Solar Home also knew about the defects in the generac system a full year before they sold me this and still SOLD ME THIS!!! Now im being told the damn system can set my house on fire on top of not saving me anything more than a half tank of gas for my car!!!!!

  6. Jason Mccracken says:

Please add us. We had panels installed and NEVER have worked

  7. Daniel A Ortiz says:

I am in the same Boat Spent over 50,000 ang it work for a total of 15 days. please add me to this.

  8. Craig Fitts says:

I originally bought the system from Pink Energy (out of business) and have not had a functioning system in over a year. Our replacement servicing company Nova Source has cancelled another appointment and there is no end in sight of when we will have a functioning system. I know Pink Energy misrepresented themselves in the sales process but at the end of the day Generacs faulty system is the source of the problem and they do not seem to be taking responsibility for their defective systems and the loss in money everyone has incurred due to this. I am a resident of Georgia and if a class action suit exists from Georgia I will want to include myself on that one but if no class action suit exist in Georgia I wish to be add to this class action suit.

  9. Joshua sadler says:

I live in Michigan and put 50,000 into these solar panels that don’t work.

  10. Pamela and Robert Barnes says:

We have nothing but problems ever since we had our generac solar system installed. We have had the system for 2 years and only have seen a couple of electricity relief. We had New snaps installed only to find later that they were defective and needed to have them again replaced. We have saved a snap that was on the roof which was burnt badly. It’s a wonder the roof didn’t burn. I just found out about this law suit. We were going to contact our own lawyer. Please include us in your lawsuit.
