Biometric safes recall overview:

  • Who: Awesafe, MouTec, Machire and Bulldog are recalling nearly 124,000 biometric safes due to an injury and death risk.
  • Why: The biometric lock on the safes can fail, allowing use by unauthorized individuals.
  • Where: The recalls are valid across the United States.

Four companies issued recalls on safes due to a faulty biometric lock feature.

Awesafe, MouTec, Machire and Bulldog implemented the recalls for nearly 124,000 safes because their biometric lock feature can fail and allow access to unauthorized individuals.

Consumers should stop using the biometric feature on the safes, remove the batteries and only use the key option for the safes recall products, the recalls say.

Awesafe is recalling about 60,000 biometric gun safes; MouTec is recalling 2,200 of its model No. QCJJ01 BBRKIN Biometric Gun Safe; Machir is recalling 24,820 biometric personal safes; and Bulldog is recalling 33,500 of its Bulldog Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults, Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults with Shelf and Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vaults.

Consumers should disable biometric reader, email photo of reader to company for replacement

Awesafe had 71 reported incidents of safes opened by unauthorized users, MouTec had one reported safe opened by a 6-year-old boy, Machir had 15 reports of unauthorized users opening safes and Bulldog had four reports of safes opened by unauthorized users.

None of the companies reported any injuries as a result of these incidents.

The companies are not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The companies ask customers to disable the biometric reader on their safe and email a photo of the disabled reader.
