Greenlight Energy customers in several states may be eligible to claim a portion of a class action settlement resolving claims that customers were not charged the appropriate electricity rates.
The Class consists of all persons or entities that were Greenlight Energy customers and were charged a variable rate for electricity by Greenlight Energy in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, or Pennsylvania between March 1, 2014, and May 13, 2019.
The plaintiff in a class action lawsuit alleged the company made misleading representations contrary to its obligations under the law and that the company’s rates did not comply with customer contracts.
Greenlight Energy is a family-owned electricity and natural gas provider based in New York City, according to the company’s website.
The Court has not ruled in favor of either party in this case, and Greenlight Energy denies the claims against it.
However, both sides have agreed to a settlement.
Each Class Member who files a valid claim will receive a payment in the form of a check.
The amounts of the individual payouts will depend on the total amount the Class Member paid Greenlight Energy for electricity during the Class Period.
Checks will be in the amount of 5 percent of all amounts the Class Member paid the company in connection with each variable-rate electricity account that Class Member maintained with the company.
A fairness hearing in the settlement will take place Aug. 18, 2021.
The deadline to opt out of or object to the settlement is Aug. 12, 2021.
The deadline to file a claim is also Aug. 12, 2021.
