The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sent out refunds from five different settlements in May, compensating American consumers for withheld wages, deceptive lending, data throttling and more.

Amazon Flex drivers FTC refunds

The FTC is sending over $830,000 in refunds to Amazon Flex drivers whose tips were wrongfully withheld by Amazon between 2016 and 2019.

According to the FTC, Amazon failed to pay its Flex drivers the full tips they received from customers between 2016 and 2019. Instead, Amazon allegedly pocketed these funds for itself in secret.

In November 2021, the FTC sent refunds totaling nearly $60 million to over 140,000 Amazon Flex drivers. Now, the regulator is sending $830,000 in refunds to 16,655 Amazon Flex drivers who did not cash their check but have a valid email address on file.

Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days. Individuals without a PayPal account can contact the refund administrator to receive a check.

Questions about the refunds can be directed to Rust Consulting Inc. at 800-654-8874.

YF Solution FTC refunds

Consumers who paid money to YF Solution for credit card interest rate reductions may benefit from over $557,000 in FTC refunds sent out in May.

The FTC partnered with the Florida Office of the Attorney General to take legal action against YF Solution, arguing the telemarketing company promised to reduce consumers’ credit card interest rates but failed to deliver. In many cases, consumers allegedly ended up with more debt than they started with despite YF Solution’s promises.

The FTC is sending out more than $557,000 in refund checks to 611 consumers who were affected by YF Solution’s scheme.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days.

AT&T data throttling FTC refunds

The FTC is reviewing claims from a $60 million settlement with AT&T resolving claims that the mobile carrier throttled data speeds on unlimited data plans.

According to the FTC, AT&T slowed down data speeds for consumers with unlimited data plans after they used a certain amount of data in a billing cycle. As a result of this data throttling, AT&T customers allegedly experienced noticeably slower speeds when using data to browse the web or stream videos. In some cases, these activities were impossible due to slow data speeds, the FTC contends.

AT&T agreed to pay $60 million to resolve the FTC allegations. Under the terms of the settlement, former AT&T consumers who experienced data throttling between Oct. 1, 2011, and June 30, 2015, could file a claim to receive a settlement payment. The FTC accepted claims for this settlement through May 18, 2023, and is now reviewing these claims for payments.

Questions about the refunds can be directed to JND Legal Administration at 1-877-654-1982.

Passport Automotive Group FTC refunds

The FTC sent over $3.3 million in refund checks to consumers who purchased vehicles from Passport Automotive Group, a Washington, D.C., automotive dealer.

The FTC claims Passport Automotive Group advertised prices for its vehicles but later increased the prices by hundreds or even thousands through illegal junk fees. The dealer allegedly convinced consumers they were required to pay for services such as certification, reconditioning or inspection.

According to the FTC, the automotive dealer also discriminated against Black and Latino customers by charging them more for vehicles through additional junk fees and financing costs.

A total of 18,007 Passport customers will soon receive refund checks from the FTC for the automotive dealer’s deceptive business practices. The FTC refunds total over $3.3 million.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days.

Lions Not Sheep FTC refunds

The FTC sent over $176,000 in refund checks to consumers who purchased clothing from Lions Not Sheep.

According to the FTC, Lions Not Sheep intentionally misled consumers by using “Made in USA” labels on its clothing and accessories when, in reality, it imported these items from other countries. Consumers were allegedly deceived by these labels and related advertising, causing them to spend money based on false promises.

Lions Not Sheep and its owner, Sean Whalen, agreed to a settlement to resolve the allegations. The FTC is using these funds to send 11,512 refund checks and PayPal payments to consumers. The refund payments total over $176,000.

Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days. Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days.

Questions about the refunds can be directed to Analytics Consulting LLC at 1-855-620-9529.
