The American Heart Association e cigarettes campaign was launched with the intention of protecting youth from the health dangers of vaping.

The American Heart Association recently launched a campaign targeting the vaping industry, using the hashtag #QuitLying, in reference to lies and misinformation being spread about the dangers of vaping. The American Heart Association e cigarettes campaign was launched with the intention of protecting youth, including young children, teenagers, and young adults, who are being affected by the rapidly growing vaping industry.

According to the American Heart Association, the teenage vaping epidemic is bad enough to constitute a health crisis. Indeed, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notes that 3.62 million middle and high school students used e cigarettes in 2018. However, it is not just this straightforward number that is cause for concern—it is the rapid growth from previous years. In fact, from 2017 to 2018, e cigarette use increased by 78 percent among high school students and increased by 48 percent among middle school students.

The American Heart Association e cigarettes campaign was launched at the AHA’s scientific conference earlier this month, including a new $20 million research investment into the study of teen vaping, as well as a push for more advocacy.

The advocacy portion of the campaign is especially significant given that so many young people are unaware of the dangers of vaping; they may even be unaware that e cigarettes contain nicotine. The name of the campaign is #QuitLying, and is intended to alleviate misconceptions about vaping and actively combat what the AHA says has been an active push by the e cigarette industry to target teenagers and young people.

It’s not just the AHA that’s concerned about teenage vaping. Back in September 2018, then-FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb referred to the use of e cigs among teens as “nothing short of an epidemic proportion of growth.”

“E-cigs have become an almost ubiquitous—and dangerous—trend among teens. The disturbing and accelerating trajectory of use we’re seeing in youth, and the resulting path to addiction, must end,” Gottlieb said in a statement.

Unfortunately, the use of e cigarettes has been linked with a number of serious health complications, including:

  • Nicotine addiction
  • Heart problems
  • Lung injuries
  • Seizures
  • More

Filing an E Cigarette Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from these or other health complications after using e cigarettes, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation. Filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by nicotine addiction or other vaping complications, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

Pursuing litigation can be a daunting prospect, so Top Class Actions has laid the groundwork for you by connecting you with an experienced attorney. Consulting an attorney can help you determine if you have a claim, navigate the complexities of litigation, and maximize your potential compensation.
