Around 100,000 BrushX hot air hair brushes are being recalled due to posing an electrocution or shock hazard to users if the brushes fall into water while plugged in.
A recall notice posted by the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission says the BrushX Styler, Dryer & Volumizer, also called the BrushX One and the BrushX Gen.2, do not have an immersion protection device to safeguard users from electrocution.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hot air brushes, destroy them by unplugging the unit and then cutting the cord, and email a photo of the destroyed product to BrushX,” the recall notice says. Consumers will get a free, upgraded replacement product.
BrushX says it is contacting all purchasers directly. So far, the company says no injuries have been reported in relation to the brushes.
The brushes, which were made in China, were sold at mybrushx.com between April 2020 and August 2021 for between $44 and $55. They were sold in black and black and pink color combinations. Recalled brushes have a “not waterproof” symbol to the left of the CE mark on the rear of the brush.
Conair had to recall its hair dryers after they were found to spark and burn users. The company was hit with a class action lawsuit over the dryers, filed by two women who claimed their Conair hair dryers burned each of them. Plaintiff Emily Hergert said in the lawsuit that her hair dryer allegedly caught fire while she was using it, subsequently burning her wrist and forearm.
