A class action lawsuit asserts that several models of Honda portable generators are defective and leak gasoline from their fuel valves, posing a fire and burn hazard.

The Honda portable generator defect class action lawsuit was filed by Ashraf Ibrahim who claims that the defect is common to multiple backup generators, including the Honda EU2200i, EU2200i Companion, EU2200i Camo, and EB2200i Portable Generators.

Ibrahim says he purchased a 2018 Honda EU2200i Portable Generator from an authorized dealer in New York for $1,045.20.

Ibrahim says he bought the portable generator because he believed that it was fit for use, and would work properly. However, he allegedly discovered this was not the case, because it possessed a defect that caused it to leak gasoline from the fuel valve, making the device both dangerous and useless.

The Honda portable generator class action lawsuit says that Ibrahim was financially injured by the generator’s defect because he would not have purchased the portable generator if he had known it was dangerous.

The Honda portable generator class action lawsuit says that Honda is aware of the defect but has not responded sufficiently to the problem. The generator class action lawsuit notes that on March 20, 2019, Honda issued a recall of the generators, but the recall did not remedy the problem and was “designed to that Honda could retain as much of its unlawful profits as possible while also providing as little benefits to purchasers as possible.”

To support the claim that the recall was not meant to help customers as much as possible, the generator recall class action lawsuit says that the recall gave minimal notice to potential Class Members, which limits the opportunity that they have to take advantage of the recall.

Allegedly, though Honda claimed to contact “all known purchasers directly,” the company made no effort to contact customers who purchased the generators not from Honda directly, but from third-party retailers.

The generator class action lawsuit goes on to say that customers who attempt to have their generators repaired as part of the recall were often unable to have the repairs done because there was a shortage of replacement parts.

Allegedly, Honda acknowledged the problems with the recall, stating that customers are facing “frustration and inconvenience” because of the recall and the lack of available parts.

Ibrahim states that many other consumers are injured by the generators and are additionally injured by the fact that they were not provided a sufficient remedy to the problem by the recall.

I recently purchased a 2019 2000i. It came leaking oil straight into the combustion chamber. I took it back 3 weeks later and complained it was defective. It was looked at and said to have severe carbon build up. I barely ran it for those weeks and had to replace the oil 3 times. I believe I was sold a used unit when I purchased a new one.
