While many consumers may think of their stove as a safe and easy appliance, some consumers have reported a potentially dangerous defect affecting gas stoves. Some consumers have even considered filing product defect lawsuits against the manufacturers of these appliances.
What Is a Product Defect Lawsuit?
Consumers may file product defect lawsuits if they have been harmed by using a product in the manner that it is meant to be used. For example, someone who follows the directions on how to use their microwave may be able to file a defective product lawsuit if their microwave catches fire. However, someone who has altered their microwave or is using it in a way other than its intended purpose may not qualify to file a lawsuit.
Product defect lawsuits are commonly filed after consumers have taken drugs with harmful side effects or have been injured, or recognized the possibility of being injured, by household products. In the case of LG gas stoves, consumers may be able to file defective product lawsuits regarding the stove top knobs.
Do LG Stove Knobs Melt?
Some owners of LG gas stoves have complained that the knobs on these stoves may melt when exposed to high heat from an open oven door. However, a much more dangerous defect may be associated with the knobs. Consumers have reported that these knobs may be too easy to turn on, leading to potential gas leaks.
According to one woman who owns an LG gas stove, she had to evacuate her house after smelling gas. When emergency responders entered the house to determine the source of the leak, she claims that she was told one of the knobs on her stove had been turned on. As the knobs on LG gas stoves are located on the front of the appliance, it may be easy for someone to bump them without noticing. However, even a slight bump might be enough to turn the knob and cause a gas leak. While some of these instances have only turned on the gas, leading to a dangerous leak, others have ignited the stove top and led to fires.
One woman who posted on Consumer Affairs stated, “[i]n the 9 weeks of living in my home, the stove has been accidentally turned on 5 times.” Consumers on the site have complained that they have accidentally turned their stove knobs by walking past the stove or leaning over it. Some of them report that they now constantly check their stove to make sure all of the knobs are turned off.

While some consumers may be able to replace their stove in order to avoid the potential hazard of their knobs turning unintentionally, not everyone has that option. Consumers who are not able to replace their stove may be able to take steps to protect themselves and their families.
Can You Prevent Stove Knobs from Causing a Leak?
If you have an LG stove with knobs that turn too easily, you may be able to purchase knob covers to prevent the appliance from accidentally being turned on. Stove knob covers are a common child-proofing device that may prevent the knobs from being bumped or turned. However, stove knob covers may rattle, be difficult to remove, or be visually unappealing. While they may provide a temporary extra layer of protection, they may not be a long term solution. Instead, you may also be able to file a class action lawsuit against the company and pursue compensation for your defective stove.
Can You File a Product Defect Lawsuit for Stove Top Knobs?
If you have accidentally turned on your stove by brushing up against the knobs or walking past the appliance, you may qualify to file a product defect lawsuit. Product manufacturers have a duty to ensure that their products are safe for consumers to use. If your stove routinely turns on, leading to gas leaks or fires, you may be able to prove that it is affected by a dangerous defect, and pursue reimbursement for the product as well as additional compensation for injuries or property damage.

I was awakened by my daughter at 8:30 am this morning. She came home and found our house was full of gas. I finished watching a movie at 2:00 am this morning, and on my way to bed found a sticky substance on the floor near my LG double oven range. I usually remove all knobs after cooking, but did not notice the middle knob was still on the panel. I must have brushed against it when I mopped the floor to remove the sticky substance. I closed the door to my room and went to bed. My daughter said the smell of gas was so strong she could smell it outside. I do have a headache now, and can feel some change in my respiratory system. I will seek medical attention, but I truly believe it is a miracle that my house did not blow up, or worse. I believe having my door closed actually saved my life, as well as my daughter coming home in time to prevent either of those fatalities. The knobs on this LG range have been a concern since I purchased the stove. There is a delay between lightly touching the knob and the ticking of the pilot light, causing gas to leak. If I leave the knobs on after cooking, the gas will seep out if you brush against them. We have two young children and two adults moving in and out of the kitchen at all times. Leaving the knobs on the range poses a real and imminent danger to my family. I believe there should be a recall of these ranges with full replacement of a safe stove to replace it.
I just suffered a house fire as the result of an LG stove seemingly turning itself on. The fire investigator determined it was the result of one of the stove knobs probably being bumped into inadvertently. If so it was a very slight bump and visually it was not even noticeable that the knob was in any position other than the off position. How can I join this class action please?
I have an LG gas range, with knobs that turn on too easily. It has started two fires which fortunately did not do any damage. What is far worse, is when the knob was just barely brushed against, the gas was coming out. I sent an email to LG and they never even responded. I have gone to various appliance dealers and checked out other brands and found that most of them have the same problem. My older gas range which I had to replace did not have this problem. My solution to this problem is to remove the knobs when I am not using the range. However, I have to remember to remove them when I am not using the stove which I sometimes forget to do. If a class action lawsuit is ever started, please include me. All I want is a range that is safe to use.

KNOBS…THEN REPLACEMENT PLASTIC KNOBS ARE REALLY EXPENSIVE, AND WILL INEVIITABLY MELT AS WELL! I UNDERSTAND THAT METAL KNOBS EXPOSED TO THIS OVEN’s HEAT WOULD INEVITABLY POSE A BURN HAZARD TO YOUR HANDS SHOULD YOU TOUCH THEM after the oven door was left ajar … HAZARD!
SOLUTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN TO HAVE THE SMALL TOP FRONT PANEL WITH THE PLASTIC KNOBS TO BE SET AT 45 degree so heat released from the oven would be deflected away from the knobs.
