Appliance class action lawsuits, settlement overview: 

  • Who: Consumers recently filed class action lawsuits against Samsung Electronics America Inc., BSH Home Appliances Corp., WarrantyGuard and Whirlpool Corp.

Consumers recently filed multiple class action lawsuits against companies over claims relating to home appliances, including washing machines, dishwashers and refrigerators..

In addition to the class action lawsuits, BSH Home Appliances recently agreed to a class action settlement that resolved claims the company sold Bosch home appliances equipped with defective components. 

Control panel labeling quickly fades on Bosch dishwashers, class action says

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against BSH Home Appliances Corp. in May over claims the company manufactured certain Bosch dishwashers with control panel labeling that quickly faded

The class action lawsuit argues consumers are unable to properly use the Bosch dishwashers, including the 100-, 300-, 500- and 800-Series models, due to the alleged issue. 

“Without the ability to see the control panel labeling, the dishwashers are impossible, or at least unreasonably difficult, to use for their intended purpose of safely and properly cleaning dishes,” the Bosch class action says. 

Whirlpool sold extended service plans that failed to cover costs, class action claims

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against WarrantyGuard and Whirlpool Corp. last month over claims the companies sold Whirlpool extended service plans that failed to actually cover the cost of a replacement or all repairs. 

The class action lawsuit argues Whirlpool and WarrantGuard claim the extended warranty plans will cover required labor and parts for warranty issues at no out-of-pocket expenses; however, Whirlpool is able to exercise a buyout on devices that is capped at 75% of their purchase price. 

“The consumer cannot use these funds to purchase a comparable appliance unless she supplements the settlement payout with her own funds,” the Whirlpool class action says. 

Whirlpool seeks dismissal of defective fridge wiring class action

A consumer filed a separate Whirlpool class action alleging it manufactured and sold Whirlpool refrigerators with defective wiring in February.

Earlier this month, Whirlpool asked a judge in Delaware federal court to throw out the claims, saying the plaintiffs failed to show Whirlpool had knowledge of the defect.

The company also claims there are no cases of injury related to the wiring despite the plaintiffs’ allegations that the wiring creates a risk of shock, electrocution or fire.

Class action claims Samsung sold washing machines that corrode prematurely

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung Electronics America Inc. in March over claims it manufactured and sold top-loader washing machines that corrode prematurely due to a flange defect. 

The class action lawsuit claims the alleged premature corrosion causes the Samsung top-loader washing machines to release tiny particles during wash cycles that can clog hoses and prevent water from draining properly, causing mold and other debris to accumulate. 

“Samsung knew that consumers were unaware of the latent defect and that they reasonably expected the washing machines to clean their laundry rather than make it dirtier by causing metallic particles and moldy debris to attach to the clothing during laundry cycles,” the Samsung class action says. 

Bosch agrees to pay $2M to end claims it sold home appliances with defective components

BSH Home Appliances recently agreed to pay $2 million in April to end claims the company sold Bosch home appliances equipped with defective components, leading to panel failure

The settlement will benefit a class of consumers who purchased, received as a gift or acquired during a home purchase or remodel certain Bosch microwaves or ovens with model numbers HBL5751UC, HBL8751UC, HBLP751UC, HMC80151UC, HMC80251UC or HMC87151UC.

Consumers who want to make a claim to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 12, 2025.

    Bought a Samsung washer that stopped working after 4 months. Called Samsung dozens of times and was given the run around. When asked to speak to a supervisor or management was flat out told no. Any place I have ever worked if someone asked to speak to your supervisor you had to let them. Not at Samsung apparently.

    My dryer went out and the replacement part was more than the dryer. We had to buy a new dryer which was cheaper than the part.

    Maytag washers should be added to this list. The computer boards are defective in that the spin cycle fails more often than not , and the fabric dispensing cycle does not work at all. What’s worse, Maytag engineers don’t know how to fix the problems, yet Maytag keeps selling the defective machines

    I have a Samsung refrigerator have never worked right.ice maker worked I week after delivery.water always running from it never stay on food goes bad every week.i will never buy this product again.i go to the stores and tell customers don’t buy the Samsung.

      I agree 100percent! Was told Samsung the best, obviously they never owned Samsung appliance. Our ice maker has not worked since the warranty ran out, the led display on the stove only half works, and the top burner indicator light won’t shut off wish I think maybe why the self clean function does not work. Dishwasher arm keeps falling off as just cheap plastic. Eat buy where we bought them would not service because we didn’t buy the geek squd extra repair contract as some of the problems happen while still in warranty. Try to find someone in our area that works on Samsuck appliances, service repair companies don’t even want to repair as they know most the defectives are caused by the way product is designed which Samsuck is fully aware of the issues. So no reputable company want to fix as they k ow it will only be a band aid on fix and will again in short time develop the Sam’s’s issues again because it is the design of product causing the problems.

      I totally agree. After months of waiting the parts finally come in. Still waiting on a repairman finally comes repairs refrigerator week in half same problem happens again. Samsung is trash. Had Samsucks washer ans dyer also. Will never buy Samsucks anything again they are trash Lost over $500 in food,$40..,in laundry which is ridiculous . Not to mention the runaround you get. Just 🗑 garbage

    I own a stackableSamsung washer/dryer. There is also premature rust on the exterior of the washing machine. I also have a samsung side by side refrigerator and while my husband and I were out of town for work for an extended amount of time, it put itself in demo mode and I lost approximately $400 in food. I contacted Samsung numerous times but got nowhere with them.

    I don’t buy extended warranties because they are expensive. I only had one appliance that I bought that had multiple problems. It was a GE refrigerator. It broke several times during the warranty period. I got GE to replace it.

    Ive never had issues with mold on my “clean” clothes until my Samsung. I’ve tried running a load of straight bleach and that didn’t work,
