defective toilet connector causes leaksFour homeowners from across the country have joined together to file a proposed DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit alleging the plumbing product’s distributor knew about the defects that caused significant water damage to their homes.

Interline sells an exclusive brand of plumbing products under the trade name DuraPro. Interline’s DuraPro line includes toilet connectors with plastic coupling nuts purchased from China for the U.S. marketplace.

The toilet connector is a short hose that goes from the bottom of the toilet to the water shut-off valve. It connects to the base of the toilet with a plastic nut.

These plastic nuts can crack or fracture causing water damage. Interline say the toilet connector can be installed by builders, plumbers and consumers in residential and commercial properties.

In this DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit, four named plaintiffs allege that Interline distributed “toilet connectors with uniformly defective plastic coupling nuts” yet failed to publicly disclose that the DuraPro toilet connectors carried a significant risk of causing “catastrophic water damage to property.”

According to the plaintiffs, the defective nuts caused leaks that allowed substantial water flow throughout their homes which caused varying degrees of property damage that required them to tear down walls, remove and replace flooring, and discard furniture.

Lead plaintiff Jacquelyn Ajose of Pennsylvania says that in June 2014, she discovered that Interline’s DuraPro brand toilet connector failed in a third floor bathroom causing water to run unabated throughout her home.  As a result, Ajose, suffered substantial out-of-pocket damages, including payment of her property insurance deductible.

Another named plaintiff, Sharon Kurtz of Dallas, Texas says she also suffered water damage throughout her entire home that destroyed her hardwood floors, baseboards, and beds, when the DuraPro toilet connector fractured.

Similarly, the claims brought forth in the DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit by named plaintiff Patricia Evett of Arizona, say that when the faulty DuraPro toilet connector broke in the middle of the night, water ran unabated throughout her entire home. Three rooms of her house had to have the walls torn out, flooring removed, and furniture discarded.

Each of the plaintiffs experienced water damage and had to pay for repairs, either in the form of out-of-pocket expenses or insurance deductibles. The monetary cost of the damages ranges from $1,152 to upward of $7,600.

The plaintiffs bring seven causes of action including strict liability-design defect, failure to warn, unjust enrichment and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.

They are seeking to represent a nationwide class of consumers who suffered costly property damage as a result of the alleged defective nature of the DuraPro toilet connector.

I have sent in information previously about a Dura pro water leak in my house that was over $100,000 in repairs as we were gone to the beach on summer vacation when the leak started. This was on the third floor and water was ankle deep in the basement needless to say it was not what you want to come home to
