United States residents who used Zoom Video Communications video conferencing services between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021, may be eligible for compensation in the form of a cash payment thanks to a recent $85 million class action settlement, regardless of whether they had a subscription.

Settlement Class Members include all U.S. citizens who downloaded, opened, or used the Zoom Meetings Application between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021. Those who used Enterprise-Level or Government accounts for Zoom meetings are excluded.

Plaintiffs allege Zoom violated both California and federal laws by sharing users’ information with third parties, failing to prevent unwanted meeting disruptions, and misrepresenting Zoom’s purported end-to-end encryption services.

In some cases, serious meetings involving religious participants and/or children were disrupted by “Zoom-bombing”, which involves showing graphic and disturbing imagery.

Zoom denies the allegations laid out in the lawsuit. While the company has agreed to settle this case outside of court, it does not accept liability for the claims made by the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit.

The popularity of Zoom video conferencing skyrocketed during the pandemic.

Statistics show Zoom experienced a 2,900 percent increase in daily users from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, Zoom has an average of 300 million daily participants, according to Backlinko. Zoom became a crucial tool for social distancing. From established U.S. courts to primary school teachers, video conferencing has become a new normal.

Class Members who paid for a Zoom subscription can claim $25 or 15 percent of the money paid to Zoom for the video conferencing subscription.

Anyone who used, opened, or downloaded the app without a paid Zoom subscription can claim $15.

Class Members who do not act won’t get a payment and they won’t be able to seek out a future claim.

A final approval hearing in the Zoom-bombing class action settlement is scheduled to take place April 21, 2022.

Class Members who want to seek out a personal lawsuit regarding this matter must exclude themselves from the current Class by opting out with the settlement administrator by March 5, 2022.

Class Members who want to remain in the Class but object to the terms of the settlement must file an objection with the Court by March 5, 2022.

Class Members who want to get their rightful payments must submit a timely claim.

The deadline to file a claim in the Zoom-bombing class action settlement is also March 5, 2022.

    1. George says:

Just letting you know ahead of time, the $15 or $25 is BEFORE expenses. I am betting most of you will see $7 or $12. Odds are they have already printed the checks. About 1/3 of them will be expired when they arrive or will not clear the bank resulting in a $12 NSF fee.

      Good luck
