Vortens toilet owners have agreed to a class action settlement, ending allegations that manufacturer Porcelana Corona de México sold tanks that could spontaneously crack.
Class Members include those who purchased Model #3464 or #3412 Vortens brand toilet tanks between Jan. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011.
According to the Vortens toilet tank class action lawsuit, improper processes were used to manufacture the toilet tanks. In addition, the manufacturers reportedly failed to implement proper quality control.
The plaintiffs alleged that the manufacturers were aware of the issue, but failed to warn consumers — instead, consumers would have to find out the hard way, after their toilet tank cracked and leaked water, potentially leading to additional property damage.
The Vortens toilet class action claimed the plaintiffs suffered extensive damage to their property and personal items after their Vortens toilet tanks cracked. In addition, they and other consumers incurred cleaning costs.
The maker of the Vortens toilet tanks continues to deny any wrongdoing, but has agreed to award Class Members payment for the replacement of the tank as well as for damages caused by cracked tanks.
Class Members with proof can claim up to $300 per tank if they replaced or are going to replace their Vortens toilet tank. Those without proof can claim $150 per tank.
In addition, Class Members whose Vortens toilet tank model #3412 or #3464 cracked and caused damage can claim reimbursement of up to $4,000 if they provide repair receipts.
The deadline to object to the class action settlement is July 15, 2019. Class Members who wish to exclude themselves have until July 1, 2019.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members include anyone who “owns or owned a residence or other structure in the United States containing one or more Affected Tank. This includes any person or entity that suffered property damage and/or paid to repair property damage caused by the failure of an Affected Tank.”
Affected tanks include those stamped with model #3464 or #3412 with a manufacturing date between Jan. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011.
The model number and manufacturing date can be found on the inside of the tank.
Potential Award
Up to $300 per tank and up to $4,000 in property damage reimbursement.
Proof of Purchase
A minimum of proof of ownership of a Vortens toilet tank must be provided. Property damage claims must be supported by proof, including receipts, of the damage.

One of my 3 toilet tanks in my condo cracked and my plumber told me there is a lawsuit against Vortens toile tank. But I cannot see any model number nor the manufacture date inside the toilet tank!? Only the brand “Vortens” is found!

Just returned from a trip abroad for 10 days, and bathroom and adjacent bedroom was flooded, carpets and baseboards ruined in all three rooms. This morning I and the plumber I called to help me find water source for the leak found the crack in the bowl……..”like a running faucet” he said. Had no idea until I started a search for replacement from the company!
I had a contractor put in a ADA toilet grab bars and shower. This was done I believe Aug 2012. I sat on toilet and tank shattered. I am disabled water everywhere. This was around Christmas 2015 or. 2016. This was. Very traumatic for me.

I have one that was manufactured in 2001 that just cracked and leaked water in my house. I’m going to have to replace that one then also going to replace the other 2 in my house. I have 2 neighbors as well that had there toilets crack and cause damage to their house.
