A $17 million class action settlement will end class action allegations that Vizio Inc. collected, stored, and shared viewing habits of smart TV owners without their knowledge or consent.
Vizio smart TV owners who connected their television to the internet between Feb. 1, 2014 and Feb. 6, 2017, could get cash from this class action settlement.
Numerous Vizio class action lawsuits accused the electronics manufacturer of violating consumer privacy laws including the Video Privacy Protection Act, as well as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
In 20 consolidated Vizio class action lawsuits, plaintiffs claim the company did not disclose to smart TV owners that their viewing habits would be tracked and shared with third parties as a way to target advertisements.
Vizio attempted to have the case thrown out, but those dismissal bids were denied after a federal judge determined that the plaintiffs raised sufficient claims under the Wiretap Act.
The Vizio smart TV class action settlement is expected to provide between $13 and $31 to Class Members who file a valid and timely claim.
In addition to the $17 million settlement fund, the defendant has also agreed to change its viewing data collection policies by providing an “accept” or “decline” express consent to smart TV owners.
Further, the Vizio smart TV class action settlement requires Vizio to delete all of the viewing data it has collected during the Class period.
The Vizio TV class action settlement estimates that there are about 16 million Class Members.
The Vizio class action settlement also provides $5.61 million for Class Counsel expenses and a service award to each lead plaintiff in the amount of $5,000.
Class Members who want to object to the settlement or wish to be excluded from its terms have until April 29, 2019, to do so.

Nothing yet
Still waiting
me too… I just sent them an email since the email they sent us said it would take 2 weeks and 2 weeks is up tomorrow.
Me too. I have yet to receive anything. Hopefully it comes tomorrow.
$53 to paypal yesterday!
Im still waiting ?
Can you tell me did you have to login to paypal? I got the email but they want me to login to paypal.
Payments has been emailed according to the date you filed your claim, not in alphabetical order! There are lots of people filed and that’s why they take time. It’s close to 900 pages and you can check your claim number and how closed to the bottom it is. Most people were claiming 1 TV, some 2-3. They most likely disqualified others unless people had proof of purchases
How do u check.ur claim number
AMG, who are u giving advice to??Look at the Court Docs and see that practically everyone claimed 1, meaning will get $17.99. it’s like close to 900 pages, scroll through them cause u got so much time to worry about others??
I received a phone call from the settlement administrator today because I called concerning my payment. She said the emails were being sent out on a rolling basis, so many a day, and they wouldn’t be done sending out emails until May 7th, so if I hadn’t received an email by then to get a hold of them.
This is crazy still waiting
FYI, anyone that received over $600 will need to have a W-9 on file with either the law firm or settlement administrator. This way, a 1099-MISC can be issued for tax purposes. If this had not been done already, be sure to get this in order. Granted, the IRS has a lot of other issues with sending stimulus checks and updating its website at the moment, but the majority of those payments have been sent out. With that in mind, the IRS will not be nearly as backlogged once stimulus payments ease and will have time next year to scrutinize things like this should it decide to.
No I haven’t. ??♀️
First come first serve. I think they sending out emails in that order. Relative of mine filed quite late after I mentioned this Settlement and the also haven’t received it yet.
Nothing yet for me either.
Might want to get better with math. I can forward anyone that wants the email where they said check would be $17.99 per tv so did you claim over 56 TV sets? And the math don’t add up.
Again if anyone wants to see the email. And checks have not gone out email yet.
You are wrong! Just because you haven’t received it. We received an email 3 days ago to choose an option such as PayPal, Amazon etc 3 TV claimed. Yrs, $17.99 per TV
What do you mean by you got your money in an email ? received an email from the Viseo lawsuit a while ago about getting an email about the payment, but I wasn’t sure what that meant. I haven’t received an email or a payment yet. Thanks for letting me know about this.
