TikTok users in the United States may be eligible to claim part of a $92 million settlement resolving a class action lawsuit over TikTok data privacy.
The nationwide Class is made up of anyone living in the United States who used the TikTok app before Oct. 1, 2021. The Illinois Subclass is made up of Illinois residents who used the app before Oct. 1, 2021.
Plaintiffs in the TikTok data privacy class action lawsuit accused the defendants — TikTok Inc., formerly known as Musical.ly Inc.; ByteDance Inc.; Musical.ly, now known as TikTok Ltd.; and Beijing ByteDance Technology Co. Ltd. — of using and collecting users’ personal data in connection with their use of the app without the proper notice or consent, a violation of state and federal law.
The popular video-sharing app reached 1 billion monthly users in September, according to CNBC.
The Court has not ruled in favor of any party in this case, and the defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
Instead, the parties have reached a settlement in order to avoid the costs and uncertainties associated with taking the case to trial.
After attorneys’ fees and other expenses are deducted from the settlement fund, Class Members who file a valid claim will receive a proportionate share of the remainder.
Illinois residents who used the app in Illinois to create videos may be eligible to receive a payment of up to six times that of non-Illinois residents thanks to certain specific claims made in the class action lawsuit.
Class Members may file only one claim.
A final approval hearing in the TikTok data privacy class action settlement is scheduled for May 18, 2022.
Those who would like to exclude themselves from or object to the settlement must do so by Jan. 31, 2022.
The deadline to file a claim is March 1, 2022.

After many attempts, they contacted me and stated fill out a form to get payment. 12/08/2022. Did so. Still no payment. Reached out. again and they claimed that they did not have the case number. Provided that to them and again for the 4th time again, stated that they would pay soon. I sent copied of the letters and the court and judges. 01/20/2023 still have not gotten my check.
When do the payments that got denied get reissued? Received email 12/05/2022 stating to update and i did. So when’s when’s payments coming?
Same! I called the phone number and I’ve replied to the email.
I also submitted new info and asked when the new payment would me sent. No reply or payment.

I emailed them asking about reissue payments and it received this reply:

Did anyone get a check in the mail? I’ve seen them via PayPal/Venmo but haven’t seen anyone receive there’s via Check in the mail?

$167.04 virtual card sent 10/26, spouse registered as well but no payment for her yet. Also strange that the site shows the case is under appeal and no payments will be sent out?

UPDATE From Settlement Website:
On September 20, 2022, an Appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit was filed from the Memorandum Opinion and Order entered on July 28, 2022, and the Order and Final Judgment,
entered on August 22, 2022. The settlement cannot become Effective and settlement payments cannot be issued until all Appeals are resolved. We have no estimate as to how long this may take.
