A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit that alleges receipts provided by SeaWorld at the point of sale or transaction included the expiration date of customers’ credit and/or debit cards in violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA).
If you were provided with an electronically printed receipt at a point of sale or transaction at SeaWorld between March 28, 2013 and April 1, 2017, and the expiration date of your debit or credit card number was printed on the receipt, you may be entitled to compensation from the SeaWorld FACTA class action settlement.
FACTA is a federal law that prohibits merchants from printing more than the last five digits of credit or debit card numbers or the payment card’s expiration date on a receipt issued at the point of sale. FACTA applies to all electronically printed customer receipts, including those issued at cash registers, self-service kiosks, and at restaurants.
The plaintiffs allege SeaWorld printed close to 1.3 million receipts that were in violation of FACTA during the Class Period.
SeaWorld denies the allegations but agreed to settle the FACTA class action lawsuit to avoid the burden, expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
The SeaWorld FACTA class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Nov. 28, 2017.
Class Members who would like to opt out of or object to the SeaWorld FACTA settlement must do so no later than March 6, 2018.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the SeaWorld class action settlement include anyone who was provided by SeaWorld with at least one electronically printed receipt at a point of sale or transaction between March 28, 2013 and April 1, 2017 on which the expiration date of a personal credit or debit card was printed.

We just went two weeks ago and someone charged my card $780 in admission fees. Lucky, the bank called and informed us.
My husband and I were there March 4 2017 – we still have a bag with things we purchased…
Same as above, used debit card and have since moved out of state and deal with a different bank !!!!
That’s a bunch of BS !!!!
This way they don’t have to pay out as much as their obligated to. Is there any other options ?
Who the heck keeps receipts from 2013? Businesses have to retain records for 7 years, but us the simple folk try to throw away all the paper garbage after a reasonable time, not five years and certainly not 7 years, we ain’t hoarders.
So why ask for receipts, when they can check your card numbers against their records???
I bought many pictures and picture frames and ,2 day passes with parking and food but no reciept from 2 years ago!!
How does that work if you purchased online?
Who saves sea world receipts ? I can show bank statements but a receipt that’s long gone is there anything I can do?
I have the same problem. I used my debit card in Oct. 2014.
I used to save receipts until it got to be mess. And most receipts use that paper where all print disappears in days.
I would like to know if we could use a bank statement too.
If you have an email on file with them then you got an email explaining the settlement and what it needed. Bank statements can be used, however, the card linked to it cannot be expired. Most debit cards are only valid for a few years. For instance if you used a card in 2013 it’s probably expired by now. Therefore you can’t submit a claim. It’s a technicality to limit how much money they pay smh
