Dynamic Pet Products LLC and Frick’s Meat Products Inc. have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they engaged in false and deceptive marketing of the Real Ham Bone for Dogs products.
If you purchased a Real Ham Bone product between Jan. 1, 2011 and May 12, 2017, you may be entitled to benefits from the class action settlement.
Plaintiffs Michael E. Taylor, Dawn R. Fortner and Catherine Gemkow allege the Real Ham Bone products are sold so that the defendants can profit from slaughterhouse waste. The defendants market the Real Ham Bone as a chew product for dogs, according to the class action lawsuit.
“Defendants represent in their advertising and marketing materials that the Real Ham Bone For Dogs is a safe and appropriate product for dogs,” the Real Ham Bone class action lawsuit says. “These representations are false and misleading because the product is extremely hazardous to dogs.”
According to the Real Ham Bone class action lawsuit, when dogs chew on a Real Ham Bone product, it creates “needle-like shards” that can irritate and possibly puncture the dog’s intestinal tract, causing the dog to suffer severe internal injuries. The plaintiffs also claim the Real Ham Bone products contain bacterial toxins that can cause dogs to become ill and/or die.
“As a result of consuming this product, numerous dogs have experienced vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, internal bleeding, infection and death,” the plaintiffs allege in the Real Ham Bone class action lawsuit.
The Real Ham Bone is reportedly an 8-inch pig femur that is brined, smoked and baked in an oven for around eight hours at 130 to 150 degrees Celsius. According to the class action lawsuit, the smoking and baking process causes the bone to dry out and become brittle. When dogs chew on the brittle bone, it can allegedly splinter. When the shards of bones are swallowed, it can cause severe internal injuries.
The plaintiffs claim that their dogs suffered severe, debilitating or fatal illnesses as a result of consuming the defendants’ Real Ham Bone products. Some of the plaintiffs’ dogs required emergency surgery to remove the bone shards from their gastrointestinal tracts after chewing on the Real Ham Bone. The plaintiffs say the products were not worth the price they paid for them.
The Real Ham Bone for Dogs class action lawsuit asserts violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. The plaintiffs sought actual damages, punitive damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment, attorneys’ fees and costs.
The defendants deny the allegations but agreed to settle the Real Ham Bone class action lawsuit to avoid the uncertainty and expense of ongoing litigation.
The Real Ham Bone class action settlement was preliminarily approved on April 19, 2017.
If you would like to exclude yourself from or object to the Real Ham Bone class action settlement, you must do so no later than July 11, 2017.

My dog loved these bones, id buy one a week for a few months and started noticing him showing blood in his stool and became horribly sick. the vet clearly stated shards and splintering and i also had xrays. i received 2 letters one stating i needed more information so i got everything from vet and then few weeks later another letter asking me to correct my amts. and to recertify the correct amt. im waiting, its been about 3 weeks since ive got any mail from them, and i saw on august 11th the judgement was finalized.
hi i want to know what are they going to do about it and i am file a law suit also and i want them to pay because they are not right for what they are doing
The claim deadline isn’t until 9/9/17. You can contact the settlement administrator with any questions about the status of your claim: info@RealHamBoneSettlement.com
I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING
Why would anyone receive a check already when the claim form deadline isn’t until September 9? I’m confused
The administration sent me a letter a month ago to submit documentation . In which I already had sent in bank statements. But after they contacted me I also sent in veterinarian invoices. It looks like they are trying to find a way not to pay someone. $2500 isn’t a lot for my dogs.
Besides the vet bill (which shows my furbaby subsequently had to be euthanized along with other costly services), will the settlement cover any of the psychological distress for having to put my pet down as he was suffering too much.
Does anyone know how/where to upload the supporting document from Vet? I do not see a place that has “Attach file”. Thank you.

Sadly I wish I had proof. I thought these were good for my dog. My dog died of bloat at only 10 years old. She had gotten diarrhea after eating the bone before. I thought it was a one time thing because she had eaten them before. The last bone may have been the issue but I have no receipts of this from that long ago! The vet and I had no idea of the issues at the time.
Then get vet bills and send those in as your proof if they still have something on file:)
So this crappy bone. Almost killed my dog. This was in 2007 I contacted them about it then. Over 200.00 in vet bills a blood transfusion and no sleep for me for over 2weeks. He died a couple months ago but lived with health problems since. What about us..???
Sorry it’s not 200.00 it was 2000.00 dollars. Stupid autocorrect
My gorgeous Cocker Spaniel got very sick, started bomiting and in about a week she was dead. That’s happened after I gave her a gift for her birthday, a real ham bone that resulted a real dog killer, I can’t get a moment of peace since then. First I didn’t know what was wrong, but after she passed away, I realized it was the bone was the last thing that she ate. She was 9 years old. I miss her,
Oh that’s just horrible! If it were my precious Crocker who died I’d sue them for a lot more than $2,500!
I am furious that innocent dogs have passed, like your beloved baby, due to their neglect. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope your heart heals soon. God bless you
I have to say then it should be noted all COOKED bones sold can cause this issue. They splinter.Never give cooked bones .Only raw. And never any rawhide or products from china.
I know an elderly couple whose little dog (real little) his name is ‘Tiny’, anyway, the woman stepped on his foot (accidently) and broke his little foot and it is going to the left…it is so sad, if anyone know how to get them the 1700. to get Tiny’s little foot healed ….please let me know…it has been a week already and it is a pitiful sight. The elderly couple have no funds to go to the vet and have fallen in love with Tiny and have no means to pay such a fee. I am diligently searching for help for them. I have pics and they are so sad.
My dog got very sick was hospitalized and everything I submitted proof of my receipt that I bought the bone along with all my 800 of vet bills and they tell me I don’t qualify !!!!! Are you serious !!! I even have pics of my dog eating the bone. Can someone help me cause I’ve left several message no return calls can only contact thru email smh!!!!!!
Don’t let this go! How dare they reject your case! Dogs experience pain and suffering, just as their owners do, albeit the owners often suffer more heartache watching their fur babies go through such a trauma. I hope you sue their a$$ off, recover the Vet cost, AND be compensated for what you went through. I’m so sad this happened to your pup, thank God yours didn’t end up like the previous commenter! God bless you and your beloved dog.
