Professional Placement Services recently agreed to pay $1.7 million to resolve claims that their direct-to-voicemail messages violated federal law.

The settlement will benefit individuals who received a voicemail from Professional Placement Services LLC through the use of VoAPPs between Nov. 18, 2012 and May 30, 2018.

Professional Placement’s records show that there are 19,134 phone numbers affected by the issue.

Plaintiff Morgan Taylor filed her class action lawsuit against Professional Placement Services in November 2016. Taylor claimed that she and other consumers received messages directly to their voicemail inbox from Professional Placement.

The direct-to-voicemail said something similar to: “This is Professional Placement Services, calling with a message. This call is from a debt collector. Please call us back at 855-777-0312. Again, that number is 855-777-0312.”

According to Taylor’s class action lawsuit, these direct-to-voicemail messages were unsolicited and therefore a violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

The TCPA is a federal law that protects consumers from unwanted communications through calls, texts, and fax messages.

Individuals who file a valid Claim Form for the Professional Placement class action settlement may be able to collect an estimated payment of $500. The payment could be more or less depending on the number of claims filed.

Class Members must file a valid claim by July 15, 2019 in order to receive payment. The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 10, 2019. The final approval hearing is scheduled for Aug. 29, 2019.

I’M from Texas. Can you please stop the non stop, continuous calls and emails and voicemails about expiring auto warranties. I don’t even the cars they call about registered in my name anymore and don’t own them. For years, we have dealt with this nuisance after repeatedly and politely, for the first 1000 calls and correspondence, asked to be placed on their do not call registry, including multiple attempts to speak on the irrelevant product they are soliciting, being the vehicle they call about I no longer own, and the three before the last
