Parties have reached a settlement agreement in a Nissan Infiniti transmission defect class action lawsuit.
Owners and lessees of certain Nissan and Infiniti vehicles equipped with an FK-*k2 continuously variable transmission, or CVT, may qualify for benefits under terms of this settlement.
The settlement resolves claims from three separate Nissan and Infiniti class action lawsuits. Six plaintiffs in these actions allege the FK-*k2 CVT equipped in certain vehicles sold by defendant Nissan North America Inc. is defective in a way that causes the transmission to vibrate or judder during acceleration.
Plaintiffs claim this defect creates an unreasonable risk of a collision, putting drivers and passengers at risk for injury or death. They allege Nissan knew about the problem with these transmissions but failed to adequately resolve it.
The parties agreed to this Nissan Infiniti class action settlement last fall. Affected owners and lessees may qualify for a warranty extension or special pricing on a new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle.
Nissan continues to deny the allegations. The settlement does not require Nissan to admit any fault, and the court has made no determination regarding liability.
Class Members will automatically benefit from this settlement unless they opt out. Those who want to exclude themselves from the terms of the Nissan settlement must do so by May 17, 2017.
Who’s Eligible
The settlement Class includes all persons who within the U.S. or its territories, including Puerto Rico, purchased or leased a Nissan Pathfinder from model years 2013 to 2014 or an Infiniti JX35/QX60 from model years 2013 to 2014 that was equipped with an FK-*k2 continuously variable transmission.
Potential Award
Varies.
Under terms of this settlement, Class Members may qualify for a warranty extension for their vehicle or special pricing on a new vehicle.
In all Class vehicles, Nissan will extend its warranty on the transmission assembly, including the valve body and torque converter, by an additional 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty extension does not apply to the automatic transmission control unit, or ATCU.
Former owners of a Class vehicle who had at least two repairs or replacements of the transmission assembly, valve body or torque converter while they owned the vehicle may qualify for special pricing on the purchase or lease of a new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle under the Vehicle Purchase Program, also known as VPP Pricing.
Proof of Purchase
To receive a warranty extension, Class Members don’t need to do anything.
To exercise the VPP Pricing option, qualifying Class Members must provide their name and a government-issued ID to an authorized Nissan or Infiniti dealership on or before March 15, 2018.

I’m having transmission issues with my 2014 Pathfinder. Please add me and let me know of recall.
Bought my 2014 pathfinder used in March 2019. It currently has 86k miles on it, as I write this reply I am stranded 3 hours from home, freezing in my pathfinder, as the transmission decided to fail, jutter, shudder, no acceleration, been waiting 3 and half hours for tow & it’s going to cost me $600 to get home. ?
I am having problems with my 2015 pathfinder – statrted a year ago when warranty ran out – vehicle was smoking terribly – said i needed new engine on a 4 year old car — they clean valves etc & solved probem -now it is smoking terrible again . I feel I was sold a lemon – never had problems like this with other vehicles
My 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is showing the same symptoms. Seems the issue was never fixed as Nissan has not acknowledged fault. How do customers outside the year range here get added as the same safety concerns are still at play.
I bought a used 2014 Nissan pathfinder in June 2017. It has been having issues so I just took it to the dealer and they said the transmission needs to be replaced. The vehicle has 86K miles.
Am I eligible to benefit from the class action law suit?
I have a 2011 Nissan cube. I am having stepper motor problem codes. My vehicle will not accelerate sometimes no matter if you push the pedal to the floor. It jerks. The rpms bounce back and forth. There are some recalls from Nissan just not on my specific year and model. Even tho it’s the same transmission as other vehicles. Help me. Nissan is ripping every consumer off. How are they getting away with this???
I have a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SL
I have the shuttering and exceleration issues since I purchased the vehicle.
This will violently shake and no pick up. This is extremely dangerous.
The other safety issue I have is the sun visors that will not stay up as a cheap plastic clip inside breaks over regular use. The only fix is to fully replace the whole visor at $150.00 which will only break again over time and regular use. This is a known issue and a major safety issue while driving.
The only real way to fix the visors is to unbolt them, pull the 2 panels apart on each one, put the plastic pieces and mounting arm back together, zip-tie 3 times, and top off with epoxy. It does sound a little silly but found it on youtube and have had no issues with them since.
Purchased a 2009 Nissan pathfinder. The vehicle won’t start. It has been to the dealer and transmission specialist and no one can figure out the problem.
IHAVE PURCHASED A 2014 NISSAN PATHFINDER FROM A DEALER IN BROOKLYN. AFTER A WEEK OF USING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN LOW GEAR IT SHUDDER AND VIBRATES SOMTETIMES VIOLENTLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT HAD CVT TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND SEE IF THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS BUYING A VEHICLE WITH POTENTIONAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. DO I QUALIFY UNDER THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. MY VEHICLE HAS 116K MILES.
Had a faulty 2013 Pathfinder. Traded for 2013 Murano before settlement. Lost our butts on the pathfinder no concessions on the Murano. Getting ready to trade the Murano or sell outright and buy s new Nissan. Any hope of concession on a new Nissan at this time.
We have a 2014 nissan Pathfinder too and tonight on Nov 9, 2018, I was backing up and was pressing the gas for car to move and it wouldn’t move. I put it in five to go forward and it wouldn’t go for a few minutes while pressing the gas, then it decided to JUMP and go forward really quick and it scared me. We bought our Nissan from a used dealership and we think it’s the CVT transmission issues in the car as well. Hope it gets recalled and fixed properly or NO ONE IS GONNA BUY FROM NISSAN ANYMORE! NISSAN NEEDS TO FIX THIS SAFETY DEFECT. THIS IS HORRIBLE. I LOVE MY NISSAN BUT I DON’T WANT IT TO KILL ME OR MY FAMILY WHILE WE’RE RIDING IN IT. GOD HELP!
