If you were charged a convenience fee while making a payment on a past due Nationstar mortgage between Nov. 17, 2014 and May 25, 2018, you may be eligible to recover up to $15.57 for every fee charged.
A $3.8 million settlement has been reached in a Nationstar convenience fee class action lawsuit, which claimed that the mortgage lender wrongfully charged convenience fees to their consumers when making payments on past due accounts.
These fees allegedly violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Washington state Collection Agency Act. The Nationstar class action was filed by Class representative Juanita Garcia in November 2015.
There are two groups of Class Members eligible to recover compensation under the settlement. The first group is all United States consumers who were charged a convenience fee between Nov. 17, 2014 and May 25, 2018 while making a payment on a mortgage which was at least 30 days past due. The second group is all Washington consumers who made similar payments and were charged a convenience fee between Nov. 11, 2011 and May 25, 2018.
Assuming that 11-20 percent of the Class submits a valid claim, Class Members are estimated to receive $8.57 to $15.57 for each instance that they were charged a convenience fee.
For example, a consumer who was charged two convenience fees during the relevant period are estimated to be paid $17.14 to $31.14. Similarly, consumers who were charged three convenience fees are estimated to receive $25.71 to $46.71.
Under the settlement, class counsel will be paid up to 25 percent of the settlement fund as payment for their fees plus costs and expenses. Garcia, as Class representative, will receive an award from Nationstar in an amount to be determined in court.
Class Members need to submit their Claim Form by Oct. 3, 2018 to receive a payment. Claims can be submitted online or through a paper copy.
The final settlement approval hearing is scheduled for Oct. 17.

Washington state residents who made the same payments between Nov. 11, 2011 and May 25, 2018 are also eligible.

I sent in my claim before the deadline but never received a check. My son just recently got his. I was with Nationstar for close to 10 years.
I need an attorney mr cooper has wronged me.Living in same home 20yrs all updated fell behind on mortgage cause of inflammatory breast disease and was trying to do a modification and tgey came back with add 30 more yrs on loan or re pay by making dbl pymts doing just that and recieve letter from a lawyer that home is in fore closure and so i call mr cooper the mortgage specialist Kath Vaughn i been working with for the last 8 months to ask what is going on to no call back for a week.I know she got my 50 messages of dis belief of what the hell was going on.Then i finally just call 800 number talk to a operator named lacey she re assures me there is more that can be done fore closure was not gonna happen.Wish to be able to get all tapes of conversations. There is so much more i just need help
They are brutal. Lost my home to them – same thing… took forever with the modification, double payments. How is this a modification? Still heartbroken and sick over the whole process.
I went though basically the same thing my husband passed away with cancer and we was be hide on the mortgage I ended up paying over $20.000 to stop the foreclosure and then they told me to do a re-modification and in doing so I sent them everything and I couldn’t get anyone to talk with me I left thousands of messages everyday and still nothing to make a long story short I ended up losing my home because of there action I couldn’t afford a lawyer to help me and after begging nation-star not to take my home they did anyway. We lived in that home for almost 15 years I just want someone to stop and listen to the ones that did do all the things right and we still lost because they are who they are and no one ever helps or hears us and we ended up paying the price for there actions.
That home is all I has now I am on the streets trying to make ends meet having to rent when I had a home. Maybe one day I pray that someone will hear us hear me I plead for someone to help me. Thank you for listening
