Lumber Liquidators has agreed to pay up to $30 million to resolve claims that their bamboo flooring is defective and prone to damage.

The settlement will benefit Class Member consumers who purchased Lumber Liquidators Morning Star Strand Bamboo flooring between Jan. 1, 2012 and March 15, 2019.

Plaintiffs filed their Lumber Liquidators class action lawsuit in December 2014, alleging that the company sold defective Morning Star Bamboo flooring products. According to the class action, the flooring was prone to damage such as warping, splitting, shrinking and splintering.

The flooring provider reportedly refused to take responsibility for the defective products. Instead, the damage was allegedly blamed on the plaintiffs and the flooring installer. Consumers were forced to pay for repairing or replacing the defective bamboo flooring, according to the plaintiffs.

Lumber Liquidators has not admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the claims against them. The settlement includes $14 million in cash, $14 million in-store vouchers and an additional $2 million in vouchers to be provided if a seven percent claim rate is reached.

Eligible consumers can receive a pro rata award from the settlement, although exact amounts will depend on the flooring purchase price.

If consumers are experiencing warping, cupping, buckling, scratching, cracking, delaminating, splintering, deteriorating or gapping with their flooring, they may be eligible for additional payments to cover repair costs. Photographs of damage, contractor’s bids and other documentation may be required for additional payments.

In order to benefit from the settlement, Class Members need to file a valid claim form by July 15, 2020. The deadline for exclusion is March 2, 2020. The deadline for objection is May 21, 2020. The final approval hearing for the Lumber Liquidators settlement is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2020.

Hello, I received papers about this class action suit and cannot find them. Who should I write to get them to sent to me again? Thank you

    1. Pamela M. Comstock says:

I simply contacted the Lumber Liquidators store where we purchased this flooring, and they emailed me my receipt. I copied it from my printer. In case your store is no longer there, just call a lumber liquidator 1 800 number. They have your info. in their system. I wished I had never picked Morningstar flooring for my home!!!

  2. David Imbrenda says:

Add me put it down in a lg living room dining and hall 3 pieces right In the middle of the floor cupped and shrunk. Terrible very disappointed have to tear the hole floor out to repair it.

  3. Kristi Kicklighter says:

How about the fact that these floors also tested to have 600 times the amount of legal formaldehyde in them? I sent the post card in for a voucher before my 22 year old son was diagnosed with ALS that his doctor at Duke is pretty sure is related to the formaldehyde in the floor.

    1. Gail Davis says:

There is not much you can do at this point. I have tried. I never received notification that there was a class action for the Dream Home Laminate class action from Lumber Liquidators and did not see it on here until after it had already closed. Everyone in my house is constantly sick and all signs point to formaldehyde. The flooring looks horrible, it is warped and chipped and just overall has a streaky and unfinished look to it and has since the beginning. I have contacted Lumber Liquidators, and then also attempted to contact the related company listed on the warranty information. They will neither replace it nor provide compensation for the flooring or the illness that the doctor feels could be related to the flooring we have in our house. The cruddy part is I can’t afford to replace it and so I have the situation of flooring that is very likely making us sick or no floor beyond the foundation of the house. Lumber Liquidators will not even honor the warranty that is supposed to be 25, or something like that, years let alone anything more. If you ever find a way to be compensated or get new flooring, please post and let me know, I would be forever grateful.

I am on file per return of a postcard sent to me.
I will need to send in additional documentation and pictures of the damages and repairs , but I prefer to replace the entire floor with the voucher, the separation of the flooring is going around the room. Linda
