Kane's Furniture settlement

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Kane Furniture Corporation sold defective bonded leather furniture that peels, flakes and deteriorates.

If you purchased bonded leather furniture from Kane between July 27, 2010 and Dec. 5, 2016, you may be entitled to benefits from the Kane Furniture class action settlement.

Cliff Brown and Douglas Mincer filed the Kane Furniture class action lawsuit in October 2016. They lodged several allegations against the furniture company, claiming it sold defective bonded leather furniture; used defective bonded leather parts in attempt to repair the defective furniture; failed to honor its warranties on the sale of defective bonded leather furniture; failed to properly disclose to consumers that the bonded leather furniture was not genuine leather; and failed to comply with the terms of its sales contracts.

Under the terms of the Kane Furniture class action settlement, “bonded leather furniture” is defined as any piece of furniture sold by Kane that is covered (in whole or in part) with bonded leather on the seat backs, seats, arms and legs of the furniture.

Kane Furniture admits no wrongdoing but has agreed to settle the leather furniture class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation. The Kane Furniture class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Dec. 7, 2016.

Class Members who would like to exclude themselves from the Kane Furniture settlement must do so no later than March 13, 2017. The objection deadline is April 11, 2017.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Kane Furniture settlement include: “All persons who purchased Bonded Leather Furniture (‘Bonded Leather’) from Kane Furniture Corporation on or after July 27, 2010, and who have not already received an exchange, credit or refund of their Bonded Leather from Kane Furniture Corporation, or who do not otherwise opt out of this class action settlement.”

NOTE: Only the original purchaser of the bonded leather furniture products is eligible for benefits from the Kane Furniture class action settlement.

  1. Cheryl A Conaway says:

I complained . Ended up buying a new couch from Kanes. Love their lifetime warranty. I pounded the salesperson when I went back and it means the lifetime of the couch. Total BS. Applied for my money back over 2 years ago and still have not received my check??

  2. Jacquelyn says:

Never again will I buy from Kane’s. They are trying to weasel out of paying the settlement by purchasing the goodwill of Floridian’s vis a vie the Heart Walk. Disgusting.

  3. James & Jackie Wallace says:

I think it’s great that Kane’s is supporting the heart walk by matching up to $50,000. But they don’t stand behind what they sell. I understand there were many who bought the same defective “Leather Furniture” that appeared to have paper-thin bonded leather that just cracked, peeled and flaked off. I’ve noticed that their ads no longer claim quality so good “you can keep it for life.”

  4. Carol Brenner says:

Well, now I see Kane is once again attempting to avoid paying for its defective merchandise and is trying to intimidate its claimants by scheduling costly depositions. I guess Kane would rather throw money away on attorney fees and court reporters rather than paying valid judgments to its loyal customers. Shame on them! I thought Kane was a reputable company. Huge mistake. I’ll never shop there again!

  5. Casey Mathis says:

    Hello,

I now have heard kanes trying to fight paying for the furniture. Really so 1k means more than them to me. Me and my husband work hard for what we have in life and the furniture looks horrible. I had furniture from room to go that lasted over 10 years. I want my 1k back or a store credit. I really want new furniture. I will send pictures of this furniture.

  6. Diedre K says:

I sent my documents in and I have not received anything. Where is my exchange or money?

  7. Ronald Kling says:

I made numerous purches from Kane’s Furniture in the past.My only comment at this time is”I’m ashamed of them.

  8. Nick richardson says:

This will NEVER happen. Kanes will go bankrupt before they pay us. This is complete bullshit but the lawyer got 1.4 million.

  9. DENNIS/JOAN FRANTZ says:

Please let me know one way or the other if they are going to pay my legitimate claim.I also need to rid my house of this sofa. I have jumped through all the hoops and sent in all relevant paperwork.COULD I PLEASE GET AN ANSWER ?

  10. Tom says:

Like other commenters, I submitted the claim form and have heard nothing. I want to get rid of this piece of junk but am afraid to do so because that might make me ineligible for a refund.
