UPDATE:
- This class action lawsuit is paying out $239 as of Sept. 26, 2022.
- Congratulations to everyone who filed a claim and got paid!
Settlements have been reached in a cathode ray tube (CRT) lawsuit filed by the Illinois Attorney General on behalf of Illinois consumers who purchased televisions and monitors containing a CRT.
If you were an Illinois resident and purchased a television or monitor containing a cathode ray tube between March 1, 1995 and Nov. 25, 2007, you may be entitled to benefits from the $36 million class action settlements.
The Illinois CRT class action lawsuit alleges the defendants were engaged in a conspiracy to fix, raise, maintain or stabilize prices of CRTs. As a result of this alleged conspiracy, consumers who purchased products containing CRTs may have been overcharged.
Cathode ray tubes are a type of technology that is used as displays in TVs and computer monitors. These types of screens were the main type of technology used before LCD, LED and plasma display technologies gained popularity.
The defendants deny the allegations in the CRT lawsuit. Currently, four defendant groups have agreed to settle the Illinois CRT litigation, while the lawsuit is continuing against the two remaining defendant groups.
The settling defendant groups include Hitachi Ltd. and Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA) Inc., LG Electronics Inc., Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. and Philips Electronics North American Corp., and Samsung Display Device Co. Ltd. and Samsung SDI America Inc.
They have agreed to pay a total of about $36 million to settle the Illinois CRT antitrust lawsuit.
The non-settling defendant groups include Panasonic Corporation, Panasonic Corp. of North America and MT Picture Display Co. Ltd., and Toshiba Corporation, Toshiba America Inc., Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., and Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc.
If you would like to opt out of the CRT antitrust litigation, you must mail your exclusion request to the settlement administrator no later than March 12, 2018.
Who’s Eligible
You may file a claim for the Illinois CRT settlement if you are an Illinois resident who purchased a CRT television or monitor between March 1, 1995 and Nov. 25, 2007 for personal use and not for resale.
NOTE: The CRT television or monitor must have been purchased while you were residing in Illinois. Individuals and businesses are eligible to file a CRT settlement claim as long as the CRT product was not purchased for resale.
Potential Award
$20 per television and $60 per monitor (estimated)
The actual amount each claimant will receive depends on the number of timely and valid claims submitted. Claimants are expected to receive at least $20 per claim.
NOTE: Because the CRT lawsuit is continuing against the non-settling defendants, there is a possibility that more money may become available in the future.

Something in the mail today from this. Hope it’s a check.
I just called and they said it be 18 to 24 more months?
Illinois Attorney General Website has an update:
According to Raoul, the Circuit Court of Cook County has approved the distribution of approximately $43 million in settlement payments to those who filed claims before the July 12, 2018 deadline. Illinois consumers and businesses submitted approximately 8,000 valid claims for more than 1 million CRT monitors and televisions purchased during the relevant period. Claimants can expect to recover approximately $14 per CRT television and $42 per CRT monitor. Every claimant will recover a minimum of $20.
The settlement distribution had been delayed by entities that intervened in the lawsuit after the claims administrator denied their claims. The matter was on appeal in the 1st District Appellate Court, which has since affirmed the lower court’s denial of the claims. The Circuit Court of Cook County has now ordered that the settlement funds be distributed.
Settlement checks will be mailed during the third quarter of 2022. Raoul urges individuals and businesses that receive checks to cash them promptly, as the checks will expire 90 days after issuance
Any updates
Just like the rest of corrupt Illinois this is again delayed for 18-24 months. The Illinois liberal corruption machine I am sure has something to do with it. What is it going to be like 5 years this will be going on since this settlement began? What a complete joke knowing Illinois corruption will probably never pay out! WTF. Also what ever TCA did to the search function it does not work well now.
Michael,
Where did you read about a 2 year delay? I thought for sure they were close to paying this one out.
I emailed the settlement attorneys directly they replied 18-24 months.
The funny thing is that is what they said 2 years ago as well…
Top class what’s up with this settlement?
Not sure what is going on. I have not received anything.
Any news on when checks will be mailed out? I would think soon due to the letters they sent out around Christmas.
I received something saying that my claim was verified and to contact them by the 2nd of Jan, My guess is checks will go out around the 3rd to 5th.
I was only supposed to contact them if I felt something was wrong….
So, I guess they still have not sent out the checks.
Anyone figure out what came in the mail, I’m out of town and don’t know. If you received something please post specifics. Thank you
The checks are in the mail today . What else could it be. It’s been a very long time . But I believe it’s the checks I’ll keep u updated
If it is checks let us know how much they paid per tv and monitor.
Will do . Just hope it’s payment .
