HireRight has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the agency of violating the Federal Consumer Reporting Act (FCRA).
According to the plaintiffs, HireRight “routinely and systematically” violates federal law by including information on background checks that negatively impacts eligibility for employment without providing a “full” copy to the consumer.
The class action lawsuit further accused HireRight of reporting on “old charges” that were dismissed by the court to employers despite the FCRA prohibition of such inclusion.
Even upon request, plaintiffs say that HireRight excluded the full background report including email communications it had with employers regarding the applicants eligibility.
Those Class Members who want to be excluded (or opt out) from the class action settlement must do so by Aug. 9, 2016.
Who’s Eligible
The HireRight class action settlement is open to three different groups of Class Members:
- Two Year Claims – “All individuals in the Settlement Class for whom HireRight’s records indicate that the request was made on or after May 23, 2011 and for whom HireRight’s records do not indicate the scope of the request”
- Two Year Available Request Claims – “All individuals in the Settlement Class for whom HireRight’s records indicate that the request was made on or after May 23, 2011 and that the request was for ‘all reports,’ ‘full file,’ or ‘the last 3 years’”
- Five Year Claims – “All individuals in the Settlement Class for whom HireRight’s records indicate that the request was made between May 23, 2008 and May 23, 2011”
Potential Award
up to $200.
The amount each Class Member receives will depend on the number of total claims submitted with a maximum payout of $200.

I have gotten two checks in the past one for 50$ and one for 200$ now they send me another claim form to fill out a couple months ago so if it comes it comes if not oh well

I’ve sent and signed everything from the very beginning, been told everything was fine, waiting on a court date, then they settle , only now to get info telling me they need more information, feel like the Ripoff is about to happen, Just once , I’D LIKE TO MEET A HONEST LAW FIRM
Who told you that. It’s contrary to what I was told of $200.00, which is what the court documents allege to be paid to each individual class member. I’ve seen nothing in the settlement agreement lowering that amount.
The document on the website said that there were so many claims that each individual will only get $25.
I talked to someone & checks will start being mailed out mid November. It’s really not enough to pay us out were probably only getting $20 a piece.

You should contact the settlement administrator with any questions about your claim. The article has contact information. There is an email address available. Hopefully they can provide some answers on the status of your claim.

i opted into this class action lawsuit on 6/16/16 and sent in the necessary documents however i have not
received a claim or tracking number. the last four of my ss# is 4189.
