Canon class action settlement

Canon USA Inc. has agreed to pay $930,000 in order to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations that its inkjet printers contain a print head defect which makes them inoperable.

Plaintiffs Sarah Barrett, Michael Robertson and Marcus Ho filed a joint consolidated Canon inkjet printer class action lawsuit in September 2014. The plaintiffs allege the printers suffer from a print head defect that causes them to display the following error message on the display panel of the printers: “UO52 — Print Head Error.”

According to the defective printer class action lawsuit, the problem typically occurs once the one-year warranty has expired so Canon refuses to repair or replace the printer for free. However, the plaintiffs allege that repairing the defect costs more than just buying a new printer. The plaintiffs claim that had they known about the defect, they would not have purchased a Canon inkjet printer.

Canon continues to deny that there is any defect in the printers or that the plaintiffs have a legitimate legal claim against them. However, the company agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continued litigation. The Canon printer defect class action lawsuit was preliminarily approved on June 24, 2015.

  1. GARY Schmidt says:

I DID EVERYTHING CORRECT. I GOT A POST CARD SAYING SORRY, YOU GET ZERO. JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, THE LAWYERS GET ALL THE MONEY. WHAT A WASTE TO TRY AND MAKE THINGS RIGHT. WE WERE RIPPED OFF AGAIN, NOT JUST OR TIME TO APPLY, BUT BY PURCHASING ANOTHER PRINTER. WHAT A SCAM!

  2. Joe Turner says:

I too have just gotten the dreaded message. Is there any other recourse available?

  3. Nicole says:

I just got this error message on my printer today, and am discovering that I cant do anything about this. How frustrating. I will not buy from Canon again.

  4. Priscilla Taylor says:

I sent in all the required documents and have received no information or response. I sent in my documents on September 30,21015.

  5. Priscilla Taylor says:

I sent in all the required documents on September 30, 2015. I have not received any feedback regarding the lawsuit. The Attorney should at least notify the participants as to the disposition of the matter.

    1. Nancy Schmidt says:

Hi, I sent mine in on time, and completely by the U.S. MAIL. I received a tiny post card stating SORRY, YOU GET NOTHING. I can understand it if I did not do as instructed, but I included EVERYTHING. These class actions groups only benefit the attorneys, not the group. We have been duped again America, no surprise there. Girldly

  6. Raymond Gustavson says:

    cool site

  7. Tommie LaBonte says:

Can I print off a copy of the rebate form for the Ink Jet printer?

  8. law? says:

The form wont go through first because of the CAPTCHA and then it says you must enter an ITEM NAME, which doesn’t exist. The judge in this case should reprimand Canon for failing to comply with the terms of the settlement.

  9. John channell says:

    Csptcha doesnt lodeW

  10. dc says:

When you goto the link to file the claim, It hides the captcha code name immediately after the page loads so most people will not figure out how to move forward. If you get past that and fill everything out, it says – YOU MUST ENTER ITEM NAME… I have tried this on different computers and it does not work. Seems like Cannon is trying to discourage people from filing a claim!!!!!!!!
