Consumers who purchased Behr DeckOver may be able to benefit from a class action settlement over allegations that the product deteriorates faster than advertised.
Under the terms of the Behr DeckOver Resurfacer class action settlement, consumers who bought/used the product between Sept. 1, 2012 and June 27, 2018 may be able to file a claim for a refund and for reimbursement for removal and/or repair of their deck. The product was exclusively sold at Home Depot for approximately $35 a gallon.
The Behr DeckOver Resurfacer class action settlement puts to rest allegations that the product, marketed at a premium to comparable stains, deteriorated on consumers within months of application.
The class action lawsuit claimed that consumers paid more for Behr DeckOver stain based on advertising that its thicker coating would last longer and require less upkeep than other deck staining products.
Although Behr admits no wrongdoing under the terms of the Behr DeckOver Resurfacer class action settlement, it has agreed to pay Class Members who can provide supporting documentation both a refund for the gallons of the DeckOver product used and for any repairs necessary.
The deadline to submit a claim for a refund and/or reimbursement for repairs is Feb. 27, 2019.
Class Members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the Behr DeckOver Resurfacer class action settlement have until Oct. 15, 2018.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members include individuals nationwide who purchased DeckOver between Sept. 1, 2012 and June 27, 2018.
Potential Award
Varies depending on the amount of Behr DeckOver product purchased during the class period and cost of any repairs.
Proof of Purchase
Proof of purchase and supporting documentation for any repairs.

I find my paperwork. I had to replace the whole deck. I just hope they remburst me.
I have electronically submitted my information to submit a claim, however I am unable to electronically send the photos of purchases nor photos of the condition that arose from the product nor the cost of repair but I want to be sure my claim has been received. I will send hard copies via standard mail but want to be sure my claim has been received.
I’m particularly upset as the deck is the support of our sunroom (considerable height off the ground) and am concerned that going forward some of the wood may need replacing though we have not had an inspector look at the structure to make that determination. At the very least, compensation for cost of the deckover and repair bill (thus far) would be appreciated. To say nothing of the effort put forth to apply the product!
It says at the end of the claim if you are unable to upload files to MAIL them and they give an address. I say send certified so you can prove you mailed it by the deadline of 2/28
trying to submit my claim and I’m not able to get beyond the electronic signature.
Add me to Behr sealant action suit
Please add me. I had my deck done 2 years ago by contractors who purchased everything at Home Depot, I have the receipt that I paid for the deck, and Behr was used to stain the deck which did not last at all.
I hired my deck to be done. And don’t have receipts – but I have had trouble with it coming off to soon for sure. If I can be added without receipts. Please do. Thanks. I can send pictures of deck after using.
I used this product bought 3 gallons and in less than 6 months my deck looked worse than before. Unfortunately I didn’t keep my receipts.
Add me pl ease
Count me in
I purchased this product in 2014. I applied it to my deck. I had the same bad experience as others have had. I have moved and no longer own the home to which the deck was painted. I feel I should be included in this class action suit because I did use this product.
If you have all the documents, file a claim before the deadline of 2/28 ! You have nothing to lose by filing. Do nothing, get nothing.
