Church & Dwight agreed to a $2.5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that Batiste dry shampoo products are contaminated with benzene, a human carcinogen.
The settlement benefits consumers who purchased one or more Batiste dry shampoo products before May 30, 2023.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Batiste dry shampoo was contaminated with benzene, a known human carcinogen linked to leukemia and other blood diseases. Consumers claim Church & Dwight had a duty to ensure its Batiste dry shampoo products were not contaminated with dangerous ingredients such as benzene.
Batiste is a dry shampoo brand owned by Church & Dwight, which has been featured by Glamour, Vogue, BuzzFeed, Insider and more.
Church & Dwight hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $2.5 million settlement to resolve the benzene class action lawsuit.
Class members can receive either a cash payment or purchase vouchers based on the number and type of products they purchased.
Under the terms of the class action lawsuit, Class members who purchased Batiste Bare and Clean or Batiste Light Bare products and can provide proof of purchase can receive a full refund for the products they purchase. Consumers who purchased Batiste may also be interested in hair care products from Seen.
Class members who purchased Bare products but cannot provide proof of purchase can receive up to $2 per product purchased and claim up to five products, for a maximum payment of $10, according to the class action lawsuit settlement agreement.
Class members who purchased Batiste products other than Bare products can receive a $2 product voucher for each purchased product. Class members can claim up to five products and receive up to $10 in product vouchers.
Cash payments and voucher values may be increased or reduced on a pro rata basis depending on the number of claims filed.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 16, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Oct. 16, 2023.
In order to receive settlement payments, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 15, 2023.

Consumers who purchased one or more Batiste dry shampoo products before May 30, 2023.
Potential Award
Up to $10 in cash or vouchers
Proof of Purchase
No proof is required; however, class members who submit receipts or other documentation of purchases may be eligible to receive a higher benefit.
