Paradise Showgirls class action settlement

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Paradise Showgirls Club in City of Industry, Calif. wrongfully required dancers to share their tips in violation of California law. If you danced at Paradise Showgirls Club between May 17, 2006 and May 26, 2015, you are entitled to a payment of $20 per day for each day you danced.

If approved, this Paradise Showgirls class action settlement will resolve allegations that the club wrongfully required dancers to share money that they received directly from customers. The class action lawsuit asserted that this tip-sharing policy is a violation of California law, which prohibits clubs from requiring their dancers to share money they receive as tips from customers.

The Paradise Showgirls class action lawsuit was initially filed in May 2010 by plaintiff Quinece Hills. She asserted several causes of action against the Paradise Showgirls Club, including: failure to pay minimum wage or legal overtime; unlawful imposition of penalties; illegal tip collection; uniforms reimbursement; failure to provide rest and meal periods; and other violations of California law.

The defendant denies any wrongdoing. The class action lawsuit went to trial, and in April 2015, a jury found that Paradise Showgirls unlawfully required dancers to share their tips with the club. The jury entered judgment of more than $6.5 million against the defendant.

Although the defendant has appealed the verdict, the appeal has been stayed. The parties entered into mediation and reached a proposed class action settlement that will ensure the dancers will actually receive money, and that their money would be paid in a reasonable amount of time. Under the terms of this class action settlement, the defendant will pay $3.025 million to resolve the litigation.

Megan Whipp emailed me this “The defendant requested an additional week (not necessarily because of your claim as there are other claims being reviewed as well). So at this time we anticipate that the claims administrator will review your claim around March 10th. I will continue to keep you posted.”

  8. Jesika says:

Anyone received their check or even a response?! I have been emailing and calling and still no response!! Wth is going on?!!

    1. April says:

I talked to my own attorney. I don’t think they have any intention to pay me. They are now emailing me asking for a copy of my mortgage. I don’t have a mortgage. They are asking for things that I don’t have. They want me to give them bank statements going back 10 years.

      1. Something says:

Not sure what your mortgage has anything to do with working at a club. I an not sure about you, but with my cash, it never was ran though my bank. Its cash and I paid bills with money orders…… Sounds like the administrator is being extremely shady. Sounds like the BBB needs to be contacted.

        1. Patiently Waiting says:

I’m not going to give up. Fu(k that. I found and hired my own lawyer. He is going to get a 3rd.
But him getting a 3rd of my share is a whole lot better then me getting zero.
And without a doubt, that’s what would have happened to me.
          “The parties” PLEASE.
The only thing they are working on is keeping as much as possible for themselves.

      2. Past dancer says:

They also requested the same from me, the only thing I had was lease agreements from 2003..2005 and 2011. I worked there from 06 to 08. They are pretty shady when it comes to who has already been paid. Why is it taking so long for the rest of us?
