Top Class Actions readers have started to receive payments from six class action lawsuit settlements resolving claims of privacy violations and more.

Capital One data breach settlement checks

Capital One agreed to pay $190 million to resolve claims that it jeopardized 98 million customers’ information in a 2019 data breach.

The settlement benefits the around 98 million Capital One customers who received a data breach notification informing them that their information was compromised in the 2019 data breach.

According to the class action lawsuit, Capital One failed to prevent a massive data breach in which third-party hackers accessed the bank’s systems. The breach reportedly compromised sensitive customer information such as Social Security numbers, credit records and contact information.

Capital One reached a $190 million settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit. Top Class Actions readers reportedly received payments of hundreds of dollars, with some claimants receiving over $1,000 — including one reader who recovered over $2,000.

The deadline to file a claim with the settlement was Sept. 30, 2022.

DoubleDown casino games class action rebates

DoubleDown paid $415 million to resolve claims that its mobile casino games violated Washington’s gambling laws.

The settlement benefits individuals who played DoubleDown Casino, DoubleDown Fort Knox, DoubleDown Classic and/or Ellen’s Road to Riches before Nov. 14, 2022.

The class action lawsuit claimed DoubleDown’s mobile casino games served as real gambling due to the use of in-game chips that are purchased with real money. As a result, these apps allegedly violated Washington’s laws against gambling and duped consumers out of thousands of dollars.

DoubleDown agreed to a $415 million settlement to resolve the gambling class action lawsuit. Our readers have received thousands of dollars from this settlement, with one reader receiving over $800,000!

In order to receive a settlement payment, players had to file a valid claim form by April 11, 2023.

The DoubleDown casino game class action lawsuit is Benson, et al. v. DoubleDown Interactive LLC, et al., Case No. 2:18-CV-00525 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

20/20 Eye Care data breach settlement checks

ICare Acquisition agreed to pay $3 million to resolve claims that a 2021 data breach compromised 20/20 Eye and Hearing Care Networks patient data.

The settlement benefits patients and other consumers who received a data breach notification informing them that their information was compromised as a result of the January 2021 20/20 Eye Care Network and 20/20 Hearing Care Network data breaches.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim iCare Acquisition could have prevented the 2021 data breach by implementing reasonable cybersecurity measures. The class action claims that, because of the company’s alleged failure implement such measures, consumer information was compromised.

iCare Acquisition reached a $3 million settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit. Top Class Actions readers report receiving payments of u to $61.43 from the settlement.

The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement is May 1, 2023.

The 20/20 Eye Care data breach class action lawsuit is Desue, et al. v. 20/20 Eye Care Network Inc., et al., Case No. 0:21-cv-61275-RAR, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

UMass Memorial Health data breach class action rebates

UMass Memorial Health Center (UMMHC) agreed to pay $1.2 million to resolve claims that a six-month data breach in 2020 and 2021 compromised sensitive patient information.

The settlement benefits consumers who received a data breach notification informing them that their information was compromised in a UMMHC data breach between June 24, 2020, and Jan. 7, 2021.

According to the class action lawsuit, UMass Memorial Health suffered an ongoing data breach in 2020 and 2021 that compromised the information of nearly 3,000 Massachusetts residents. The breach allegedly compromised financial account information, Social Security numbers and other data.

UMMHC resolved the class action lawsuit with a $1.2 million settlement deal. Under the settlement terms, data breach victims could recover up to $5,150 in compensation for data breach-related damages. One Top Class Actions reader reported receiving a payment of $106.43.

To receive settlement benefits, consumers had to file a valid claim form by April 14, 2023.

The UMass Memorial Health data breach class action lawsuit is Kesner, et al. v. UMass Memorial Health Care Inc., Case No. 2185-cv-01210, in the Massachusetts Superior Court for Worcester County.

IKEA FACTA settlement checks

IKEA agreed to a $24.25 million settlement deal to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming that it printed receipts with too much payment card information.

The settlement benefits IKEA customers who used a debit or credit card at any IKEA retail location and received an electronically printed receipt displaying the first six and last four digits of the payment card number between Oct. 18, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2019.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused IKEA of violating the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) by electronically printing receipts that contained more than the last five digits of payment card numbers. The IKEA receipts allegedly displayed the first six and last four digits, far more than the five digits allowed under FACTA.

IKEA reached a $24.25 million settlement to resolve the FACTA class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, claimants could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Top Class Actions readers reported receiving payments of $25.04.

The deadline to file a claim with the settlement was May 4, 2023.

The IKEA FACTA class action lawsuit is Richardson, et al. v. IKEA North America Services LLC, et al., Case No. 19STCV37280, in the California Superior Court for Los Angeles County.

Gannett TCPA class action rebates (round 2)

Gannett agreed to pay $13.8 million to resolve claims that it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) with unsolicited robocalls.

The settlement benefits consumers who received an unsolicited robocall from Gannett between Jan. 2, 2010, and Aug. 4, 2016.

According to the telemarketing class action lawsuit, Gannett violated the TCPA with unsolicited robocalls placed using an automatic dialing system. These calls allegedly encouraged recipients to subscribe to Gannett’s publications but failed to first get consumer consent as required by the federal law.

Gannett reached a $13.8 million settlement to resolve the TCPA class action lawsuit. Readers report receiving additional, supplemental payments of $15.01 from the second round of distributions. 

In order to receive a settlement payment, claimants had to submit a valid claim form by Nov. 5, 2016.

The Gannett TCPA class action lawsuit is Clark and Schlossberg v. Gannett Co. Inc., Case No. 16-CH-06603, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County Department, Chancery Division.

So for now on, I will make copies of all Settlement Claims I file that way I can back it up that I did indeed file before deadline and they stull owe me monies!
