The class action lawsuit claims Coppertone sunscreen sprays contain benzene — a known human carcinogen. Benzene has been linked to leukemia and other health concerns. Plaintiffs in the case say Beiersdorf and Bayer should have tested their products for carcinogens.

Beiersdorf and Bayer agreed to pay $2.3 million to resolve the sunscreen class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, consumers could receive a full refund for the sunscreen they purchased. Top Class Actions readers report receiving payments of up to $6.61 from the settlement.

The settlement benefits owners and lessees of certain BMW, Mazda, Subaru and Toyota vehicles equipped with Takata vehicles as of June 9, 2017, who sold or returned the vehicles between April 11, 2013, and June 9, 2017.

According to the class action lawsuit, automotive companies equipped their vehicles with defective Takata airbags that could explode when deployed — injuring drivers and passengers. These airbags allegedly caused at least 10 deaths and over 100 injuries worldwide.

The automotive companies haven’t admitted wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the Takata class action lawsuits with a settlement. Under the terms of the settlement, vehicle owners and lessees could receive a cash payment. Readers report receiving payments of up to $181 from the settlement.

Global Tel Link, a national inmate communication company, allegedly retained positive balances from inactive accounts. According to a class action lawsuit, Global Tel Link should have returned these funds to consumers.

Global Tel Link agreed to resolve the class action lawsuit with a $67 million settlement. Under the terms of the settlement, consumers could receive a 100% refund of the retained funds. One Top Class Actions reader reports receiving a check for $11.54 from the settlement.

The settlement benefits consumers for whom Experian sent a consumer report to a third party since Sept. 27, 2017, where the report contained an inaccurate Fraud Shield Indicator indicating the consumer’s address was either high risk or non-residential. The settlement also benefits consumers affected by Experian’s Fraud Shield Indicators who contacted Experian between July 1, 2018, and July 31, 2021, to inquire about or dispute a non-residential or high-risk address indicator.

According to the class action lawsuit, Experian incorrectly reported residential information as “high risk” or non-residential on consumer reports. This false reporting allegedly denied consumers credit opportunities such as mortgage modifications.

Experian agreed to pay $22.45 million to resolve the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, consumers were expected to receive between $300 and $900. Readers have reportedly started to receive payments from this settlement, with one reader receiving a check for $178.

The settlement benefits consumers who were prescribed Suboxone oral film between March 1, 2013, and Feb. 28, 2019.

The FTC claimed that Suboxone was falsely advertised as safer than other competitor options. In addition, the agency claimed that Reckitt Benckiser and Indivior conspired to increase Suboxone profits through an antitrust scheme.

In May 2021, the FTC distributed over $59 million in connection with this lawsuit. The agency planned to distribute the remaining $500,000 from the settlement between eligible consumers who filed a valid claim. The settlement benefits consumers who paid to file their federal tax returns through Intuit TurboTax for the 2016, 2017 and/or 2018 tax years, but who should have been allowed to file their taxes for free through the IRS’ Free File Program.

According to the FTC, consumers were unlawfully charged to file their federal tax returns when TurboTax should have allowed them to file for free under the IRS’ Free File Program. These charges allegedly violated Intuit’s misleading “free” marketing claims.

The FTC and attorneys general from each state reached a $141 million settlement with Intuit over these allegations. Gold Standard Baking and MVP agreed to pay $3.4 million to resolve the discrimination class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, workers were eligible to receive up to $5,000 — though payments could have been reduced based on the number of claims filed.
