Nissan transmission and Altima settlements have been reached to resolve claims against the auto company.

Top Class Actions report receiving checks from two automotive class action settlements — a Nissan Altima CVT class action settlement and a Nissan transmission class action settlement.

Nissan Altima CVT Class Action Settlement

Top Class Actions viewers have reported relieving Nissan Altima settlement checks worth as much as $1,100.

Those who received settlement checks included all U.S. residents who are a current or former owner or lessee of a model year 2013 through 2016 Nissan Altima with a continuously variable transmission (also called a CVT).

Nissan agreed to settle claims that some Altima vehicles possessed a defect that caused their transmissions to fail. Allegedly, this occurred prematurely, and caused a range of issues included shuddering, power surges, stalling, hesitations, and a range of unusual sounds.

According to consumers, Nissan should have offered consumers a repair for the problem. However, customers claimed that instead, the company passed off the costs to drivers by requiring owners and lessees to pay out-of-pocket to repair the problem. Allegedly, these repairs could costs thousands of dollars. They say that consumers were financially injured — they explain that Nissan advertised that the car was free of defects, but sold them a defective car.

Nissan denied the claims brought forward in the Nissan Altima CVT class action settlement, but agreed to settle the consumer claims in the interest of avoiding the continued costs and risks of litigation. Nissan agreed to pay a $1,000 voucher that can be used towards a new Nissan or Infinity, and agree to extend the warranty on allegedly affected vehicles.

The deadline to file a claim was Jan. 30, 2020.

Godino of Glancy, Prongay & Murray LLP; Mark S. Greenstone of Greenstone Law APC; and by Kevin Sharp of Sanford Heisler Sharp LLP.

The Nissan Altima CVT Class Action Lawsuit is Gann, et al. v. Nissan North America Inc., Case No. 3:18-cv-00966, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Nissan Transmission Class Action Settlement

Nissan transmission and Altima issues allegedly affected vehicle performance. In the Nissan transmission class action settlement, Top Class Actions viewers are receiving checks worth as much as $5,000.

Class Members include those Nissan owners and lessees of 2013 to 2017 Nissan Sentra, 2014 to 2017 Nissan Versa Note, or a 2012 to 2017 Nissan Versa vehicles with a continuously variable transmission.

Drivers claimed that these vehicles possessed defective transmissions that can cause the vehicles to shake or jerk wile driving. Allegedly, this can put drivers and others at risk for a collision, as they attempt to deal with the problem.

Drivers say that they were financially injured by the defect because it tends to manifest after the warranty has worn out. This means that drivers then got stuck with the bill to try to repair the transmission, says the Nissan transmission class action lawsuit.

Nissan denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle with consumers in the interest of ending litigation and not incurring possibly more costs. Nissan agreed to provide expense reimbursement to eligible drivers and to offer a warranty extension for allegedly affected vehicles, so that they could receive warranty coverage for the Nissan transmission defect issue.

    1. Michelle Gilbert says:

Willing to pursue lawsuit against Nissan, I was not notified and am experiencing transmission problems now.

      1. Tameika T Jackson says:

Also willing to file on my 2013 Nissan Sentra

  2. Osvaldo Ochoa says:

I also filled a claim for a bad transmission on a 2016 Nissan Altima but did not get a reimbursement and I submitted my paper work 3 different times.

  3. Lilly K says:

We didn’t hear about this until it was too late. We had to change our transmission in January 2020 but because we didn’t file our claim until June 2020 because we weren’t notified in time we lost out and they won’t pay us back for the $4,000.00 we spent on putting a new transmission in.

  4. Marcia Joseph says:

I received no notification I bought my 2013 Nissan Altima brand new, I have not received any payment and now I’m having issues with the transmission. This is not right.

I have a 2016 Nissan Altima piece of crap. Bought it in 2017 with 42k some miles on it. Was NEVER told anything about the CVT transmission, and no one explained the warranty or anything. (The dealership was having a contest or something that day and was more concerned about getting people to sign on the dotted line).
In Nov 2020, the transmission issues started with just over 100k miles on it. (shuddering, stalling at stops, accelerating, etc). Took it to the dealership, they scanned it, and told me the codes it brought up were “literally the kiss of death”. To fix it, would be around $5k. They also informed me the so-called “extended warranty” I had but didn’t know about, was expired and wouldn’t have done any good anyway, since I was over 100k miles (by 7k). Took it to a place that does only transmissions and they told me about the class action lawsuit. I researched it, and found that I missed the deadline to file. UGH. This is ridiculous!!! I NEVER received ANY recall notices about the transmission or anything!!!
Is there going to be another class action for this??? Nissan KNOWINGLY manufactured these vehicles with this type of transmission and the issues that comes with it and they are NOT held accountable?!?!? Seriously?!?!?
I will NEVER purchase another piece of crap Nissan!!!!!

    1. Mary Grace Eslick says:

My story is eeriely the same! I got my 2016 versa in November 2017. The first week, it started bucking and shaking and dying. I was ready to turn it back in, but the guy maintained he would make it right. So he sent it to a nissan dealer and they put in a new CVT transmission… Anyhow, I’m sorry you had trouble, but I’m glad that I’m not alone in this…

  6. Jesse says:

I’m the owner of a 2016 Nissan altima and it is having all those same problems as listed in all the lawsuits. Is there anyway to help get it fixed

    1. Theresa King says:

Having the same problems with my Nissan Altima , purchased a 2015 in August 2017 .When I bought the car it only had 4,000 miles on it now I am having trouble with it stalling ,squealing , loss of power ! Shaking when I stop at a red light . I took my car in to have it serviced and showed them the letter they had sent to Nissan owners with these issues keep my car for over a week when I got it back it it is having more problems than before I took it in .

  7. Stacie says:

866-849-7545 Natalie Finkelman. Im going down list of attorney’s to see if I can get a response. My 2013 Nissan Sentra has lost its transmission fight also. I wasn’t aware of this settlement and feel as Nissan should be responsible for EVERY VEHICLE!!!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED ALL OF US!!!! I have taken exceptional care of my car with on time maintenance, no matter the cost. A car is an investment and man what a horrible scam!!!!!!

    1. Penny Oliver says:

just wondering if you found anything out? basically same thing happened to me.

    2. Eileen Philips says:

My son is paying over 4,500 for a new transmission THIS week on a 2013 Nissan Sentra that only has 81,000 miles on it. He has already spent 2,000 dealing with the issue over the past 3 months because he was told he needed a new catalytic converter for $1,500 and when the problem still continued he was told he needed a new computer chip for $500. The problem still continued and his car continued to have transmission problems. Today he was told he needed a new transmission and it would cost $4,500. There needs to be more lawsuits for all who missed the first one.

      1. Tameika T Jackson says:

I agree and have the same car 32,000 mi, shudders at red lights, but will stop when in neutral. also have a Nissan Sentra, that I bought past year…I believe the owner got the money from the lawsuit then sold it to me in June. We need to.be compensated or they need to extend that warranty!!!

  8. Stacie says:

Same problem today. Is there anyway to get Nissan to pay now?

  9. Judith Schwahn says:

I bought a nissan sentra 2017 in 2018. We got a recall letter for the CVT transmission and extended warranty to 86000 miles. It got replaced August 2020, we only got 17000 miles out of the new transmission. We call Nissan customer service and they said all they can do is pay 50-50 to replace the transmission, which is totally unfair that they can even stay behind their product. Of course we don’t have the money to take care of this problem. Not fair!!!

  10. Kali Areal McGlinch says:

Can anyone answer any of these questions? Mine is stalling out and has almost caused me to be in an accident, I have a one year old and a single mom…
I purchased my nissan Altima 14 in 16 and still have it today and it’s been acting up the last few months…only good thing is is for covid that my son barely comes with me anywhere and I dont have money to pay for a messed up part because nissan didn’t disclose this with me
