There are two main ways to get involved in a class action lawsuit. The first is to file a class action lawsuit and serve as a plaintiff. The second way is to be involved as a Class Member.

Once a judge has granted certification to a Class of consumers, notice of the class action lawsuit may be sent to potential Class Members. Advertisements are often posted in newspapers, magazines, and online to let consumers know about the litigation. Top Class Actions is also an excellent source of information about the latest class action lawsuit and settlement news—we’ll keep you updated and let you know when you’re able to join a class action lawsuit.

When you find out about a class action lawsuit for which you’re qualified, simply follow the directions on the notice. Typically, you will either contact the Class Counsel or the Settlement Administrator in order to join a class action lawsuit. Contact information will be provided in the advertisement or notice. If money becomes available following a trial or settlement, you may need to file a Claim Form in order to be eligible for benefits.

Does It Cost Me Anything to Join a Class Action?

It does not cost anything to join a class action lawsuit.

What Happens When I Join a Class Action Lawsuit?

After you join the class action lawsuit, you must wait for the case to be decided, either at trial or through a settlement. If you qualify for benefits, you will either receive them automatically or you will receive additional instructions on how to file a claim.

How Long Will It Take to Get My Money?

It may take quite a while to receive money from a class action lawsuit, so be patient. A judge will have the final say about the award and whether it is fair to Class Members. Objections and appeals can cause significant delay. Although some cases are resolved and pay out quickly, it may take several years to receive payment from a class action lawsuit.

Do I Need to Prove I Purchased These Products?

Sometimes it is necessary to provide proof of purchase to show that you’re eligible to join a class action lawsuit, but this is not always the case. It is important to carefully follow the instructions provided by the Class Counsel or Settlement Administrator when you join the class action lawsuit. Failure to provide the necessary information and documentation may cause your claim to be denied.

How Involved Do I Need to be Once I Sign Up?

Once you sign up as a Class Member, you typically don’t have to take any action besides submitting a Claim Form or other necessary documentation. You may elect to attend or speak at a final hearing for a settlement, but it is not required.

What Happens If My Claim is Denied?

If your claim is denied, you will not receive compensation from the class action lawsuit. If you believe your claim should have been approved, you may contact the Settlement Administrator to ask why it was denied.

You can always contact class counsel with any inquires you may have about “joining” a case. Every TCA article has current counsel listed at the bottom of the article. You can Google contact information. Please note that you do not need to be a named plaintiff in a class action case in order to qualify for and submit a claim if a settlement is reached.

  8. Desiree Pruett says:

We recently used the commuter lane aka “FasTrak” in San Francisco, CA in August. We couldn’t understand why there were cameras above the commuter lane taking pictures. We assumed they were checking for how many passengers were in each vehicle, there were several cars with only one person. Since they have signs posted for commuter lane stating how many per vehicle, we knew we qualified to use it. We recently received a violation notice stating we were being fined for not having a FasTrak toll tag. Where along the highway does it state thats required? I took a picture of the state of CA signs for car pool lanes which are still up. I have the picture in my computer. The signs need to be removed or the toll tag requirements need to be removed. These are CA car pool lanes and being used to pull in money on unsuspected motorists. Please tell me how to be added to this class action suit. Thank you, Desiree Pruett
