deck stain olympic rescue itA class action investigation has been launched into claims that hybrid deck stain product manufactured and distributed by Olympic fails to work as advertised. The product, Rescue It Resurfacer, has been the subject of considerable consumer complaints.

What is Olympic Rescue It Resurfacer?

The Olympic resurfacing product is a combination of both paint and stain that can be used on concrete and weathered wood decks and patios. The manufacturer states: “Don’t replace it. Rescue it!”

The product contains detailed step-by-step instructions on how to prep the surface and how to apply the coating, a process that even manufacturer admits is a “time consuming.”

Numerous Olympic Rescue It customers claim that even after following all the directions and spending countless hours prepping and applying the stain, the product still failed to work as advertised.

Consumers Express Dissatisfaction Over Rescue It

While many customers reportedly are pleased with the deck stain product shortly after the initial application, there are many others who are frustrated with their Olympic Rescue It experience. The decks of several individuals have had to be redone to repair the peeling, cracking, and bubbling that appeared shortly after the initial application of the Olympic stain.

Online reviews that address the product’s performance in the months and years following application make it apparent that Rescue It will eventually begin to crack, bubble and peel, ultimately leaving the deck looking like a mess.

In one example, an individual applied Rescue It in two coats in the recommended drying time in between coats to stain his weathered deck. The customer expressed his disappointed in the failed durability, stating that within a year and a half, the paint was “popping off in many areas” and eventually began to “peel off in sheets”.

In another instance, the stain failed to hold up to the elements and faded drastically, with sections “peeling and cracking making the deck look worse than before” the application of Rescue It.

Olympic does offer a general guarantee of satisfaction, as long as Rescue It is applied after correctly prepping the surface according to the product’s instructions. However, the consumer’s compensation is only for the cost of the product, providing they have a receipt; according to online complaints, customers must sign an addendum in order to receive the refund.

Many consumers have taken to voicing their dissatisfaction over Olympic’s response to their complaints, angry that the company’s refund policy fails to cover the loss of their time and effort spent in prepping and applying Rescue It, as well as the additional cost involved in future labor to repair the damage that Rescue It allegedly caused.

Depending on the company’s actions going forward, Olympic may soon face a slew of lawsuits over the problems with their hybrid deck stain product.
