Colgate-Palmolive Co. has agreed to a class action settlement in a multidistrict litigation that accused the manufacturer of Softsoap Antibacterial hand soap of deceptive marketing practices. The Softsoap class action settlement was reached after two years of litigation from plaintiffs who claimed that the active ingredient triclosan that was supposed to “eliminate 99 percent of germs” is unable to do what it promised.
The antibacterial hand soap class action lawsuit MDL cited studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2000 which discovered that triclosan does not kill most common bacteria in an average five-second hand washing. The plaintiffs also pointed to other studies that showed triclosan didn’t kill any more bacteria than soap and water.
The Colgate-Palmolive class action settlement states that the defendant will refrain from making three of the five statements that the lead plaintiffs found to be misleading. The Softsoap manufacturer also agreed to use triclosan in its products “only in a manner consistent with final FDA regulations.”
The preliminary approval of the Softsoap class action lawsuit settlement was filed in a New Hampshire federal court in May 2015.

That antibacterial ingredient is a carcinogenic and mutates frogs when released into the environment.I stay away from anything with Triclosan as a ingredient.
I’m still using and buying this product
I look because I purchase my products based on many things. I do not like to be lied to. One example is the Mac and cheese with metal in it. When I found out about that, I was terrified to eat it or feed it to my kids. why does a consumer has to go through this? Also when the dog food that started to kill dogs, It was the same brand I fed my dog. I do not want my dog to die. I check, and my rights are my rights. Also look at the one for Michael Kors. I went to the San Marco Outlet store, thinking that this is the place where I can buy me a nice purse at a better price and then find out that their prices are not really outlet prices..I feel stupid and lied to. If I see that it is a product I had purchased I will file, because it is my right.
Actually, in my case I purchased Softsoap over the generic because it claimed to be antibacterial. The cost difference has added up over the years. P.s. The advertising used to verify I am not a bot is asking for a lawsuit… Bahhahahahaaa.
I wonder how many people will file this claim?
I was buying the products at sometimes at walgreens and family dollor store and walmart.. time I throw the receipts away . so now how can I receive money back and no claim file .sometimes people don’t hold receipt for a long time. the ink wears out and you can not see it.
Sometimes, it is just about the principle of the matter.
I usually buy 10 bottle of antibacterial hand softsoap at one time. What if I cant find my receipt for these months?
Great Question! WHY do you look at this site?
What’s your job.. Collecting Medicaid hand-me-downs from the government? I agree.. That’s a pretty nice job to have: you don’t do squat and get *paid*. Nice going.
You do not collect Medicaid Sr. It is a MEDICAL BENEFIT.
