Top Class Actions COVID-19 & Education Scholarship

There is no question that the Coronavirus pandemic has impacted students around the globe — from the youngest in preschool to those in the final years of their education in college. Teachers, students, and parents together had to learn how to make remote learning work.

Top Class Actions is hoping to highlight the impact the COVID-19 lockdowns have had on students and education by offering a $3,500 scholarship to college-bound high school students who will be graduating in 2021. To qualify for the COVID-19 & Education Scholarship, entrants must write a 500- to 1,000-word essay that addresses the topic of “How has the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the education system?”

The entrants should share real-life experiences while reflecting on the effects the pandemic had on education in general including any lessons the pandemic has taught them about the need for reform to the current education system.

The mission of Top Class Actions is to make the lives of consumers better by connecting them to credible news and reliable resources. In a similar vein, we hope this scholarship will make the lives of young people better by connecting them to their future.

NOTE: The deadline for this scholarship is June 18, 2021. The winner will be chosen and notified by the end of August 2021.

COVID-19 Impact on Schools

When students were sent home in the Spring of 2020 as part of an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, schools had to quickly adapt to online learning. This brought myriad challenges, but among these challenges, there were also positives.

The Brookings Institution says that one positive is that there is now “a much greater appreciation for the importance of public schools.” Some education experts have also highlighted that COVID school closures also paved the way for innovation in education.

As students around the country have struggled to deal with remote learning, some students have also faced a variety of issues such as:

  • Tuition Refunds Various school administrations allegedly refused to offer refunds for college tuition from college students who claim they did not receive the full experience they paid for after they were sent home for distance learning.
  • Student Housing Refunds Student housing providers are still continuing to charge rent despite campus closures, leading to students demanding refunds.
  • Student Loans A financial institution has suspended its low-interest student loan program due to the economic downturn, which a student loan borrower claims were unlawful.
