Tesla Cybertruck recall overview:

  • Who: Tesla has issued a recall for more than 27,000 model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles.
  • Why: The recall — the fifth involving the Cybertruck since it was made available to the public last year — was initiated over concerns the rearview camera on the vehicle may not display an image within two seconds of the vehicle being put in reverse.
  • Where: The Cybertruck recall affects certain vehicle owners nationwide.

Tesla is recalling more than 27,000 of its model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles over concerns their rearview camera image may not display quickly enough after the vehicle is put in reverse.

The Tesla recall, the fifth involving its Cybertruck model since it was released to the public last year, includes certain model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles produced between Nov. 23, 2023, and Sept. 14, 2024.

Tesla said it is concerned a delayed availability of the rearview camera image could affect the driver’s rear view, increasing the risk of a collision.

“A delayed rearview image reduces the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Cybertrucks recall says.

Over-the-air software remedy will fix issue, recall says

Tesla said it would remedy the issue with an over-the-air software remedy that, according to the Cybertrucks recall, began on or shortly after Sept. 19, 2024. The update came at no cost to vehicle owners, according to the Tesla recall.

Owner notification letters have a planned mailing date of Nov. 25, 2024, according to the Tesla recall.

Individuals with more questions about the Cybertrucks recall may contact Tesla by telephone at  1-877-798-3752 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

The automaker issued a separate recall involving more than 11,000 model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles earlier this year, over concerns a cosmetic applique fixed to the exterior of the vehicles’ trunk bed rim could become loose or separate from the vehicle.
