Tesla recall overview:
- Who: Tesla has issued its sixth recall involving its model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles since they were released to the public last year.
- Why: The latest recall was initiated over concerns that a defect affecting more than 2,400 Cybertruck vehicles’ drive inverters could cause them to suffer a loss of drive power.
- Where: The recall affects certain Tesla Cybertruck owners nationwide.
Tesla has issued the sixth recall for its model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles since the automaker began delivering them to customers in November 2023.
The recall involves more than 2,400 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles that were or are equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor or field-effect transistors in their drive inverter. The vehicles were produced between Nov. 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.
Tesla said it is concerned a fault in the driver inverter of the recalled Cybertruck vehicles could cause it to stop producing torque, preventing a driver from having the ability to apply torque to the vehicle with the accelerator pedal, leading to a loss of propulsion.
“A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash,” the Tesla recall says.
Tesla to replace drive inverter on recalled Cybertruck vehicles
Tesla said it plans to remedy the issue by replacing the drive inverter in the recalled Cybertruck vehicles, free of charge, and expects to mail owner notification letters Jan. 4, 2025.
Anyone with more questions about the recall may contact Tesla by phone at 1-877-798-3752 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
This sixth Cybertruck recall comes a little more than a month after Tesla issued a recall for more than 27,000 model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles over concerns their rearview camera could fail to display an image within two seconds of the vehicle being put in reverse.
