Two pharmacists work in a pharmacy.Kotex tampons have come under fire in the media recently as more women come forward to argue that the manufacturers knew or should have known about weaknesses of this product that led to it breaking down and even getting stuck inside the bodies of female users.

It is important for anyone who might have purchased Kotex tampons or may have them stored in their house to understand which of these tampon products are recalled so that the consumer can avoid potential health problems related to these tampons.

What is the Risk with Recalled Tampons?

Kimberly-Clark voluntarily recalled multiple lots of its tampons
due to a defect that caused them to unravel when women attempted to remove them. Some of the pieces of those unraveled tampons got stuck inside women’s body and some women have had to get additional medical attention to remove the pieces left inside.

Some of those women have already reported the problems to the Food and Drug Administration. Reports were also filed with the company directly and some consumers had begun to share their stories in the news when Kimberly-Clark, the manufacturer of the Kotex brand, recalled them.

U Brand Unraveling

The recall was limited to specific lots of tampons made between Oct. 7, 2016 and Oct. 16, 2018. These fall under the brand name U by Kotex Sleek Tampons which were distributed across the United States from Oct. 17 through Oct. 23, 2018.

According to gynecologists, the potential risk is that the recalled tampons could fall apart and many different pieces of various sizes could remain stuck inside a woman’s body without her knowing where they all are or being able to easily remove them.

Some gynecologists are concerned about how this could affect patients, since it is not known how these tampons are put together and they could have glues or chemicals that could harm the vagina.

Tampon Recall

The company stated that the issue was a quality-related defect. Reviews on the website for the company indicated that numerous women reported tampon complications, with difficulty in removing the products or other side effects such as vaginal irritation.

Apparently, over 200 lots of tampons made by this company fall under the terms of the recall. These were sold in 18 count, 34 count, and 3 count packages, but impacted tampons could also be found in 34 count multipacks.

If you are not sure when you purchased your box of U by Kotex, you can look at the lot number located on the bottom of the packaging and look it up on Kimberly-Clark’s recall website compare it on this recall list to determine whether or not the box was included.

It is unclear exactly how many boxes of tampons that this recall could affect, but it is believed that the products were distributed throughout Canada as well as the United States.
