Kotex Tampons Recall

The U by Kotex manufacturer, Kimberly-Clark, issued a voluntary recall of one of its products on Dec. 11, 2018—the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency. The recall came on the heels of reports that the tampons were defective, causing them to unravel upon removal—and even leave pieces of the product inside users’ bodies.

According to a report by CNN, some customers claimed that the pieces of tampon left inside their bodies can lead to more serious complications, including infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and more.

In some cases, users of these defective tampons say they were forced to seek medical attention to remove some of these pieces and alleviate symptoms, according to a statement on the company’s website. The company also urged customers with the affected product to contact their customer service team, and to see medical attention if they experience symptoms like vaginal injury or irritation, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting following use of the defective product.

The specific tampons included in this recall are the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency, manufactured between Oct. 7, 2016 and Oct. 16, 2018, and distributed between Oct. 17, 2016 and Oct. 23, 2018. The specific lot numbers on the bottom of the package can help customers determine whether or not their tampons were included as part of this Kotex tampons recall.

No other U by Kotex tampons were affected by the recall.

To check if your U by Kotex tampons were affected by the recall, you can use the lot number checking tool included in the company’s FAQ about the recall.
