Morley Companies Inc. will pay $4.3 million as part of a class action lawsuit settlement following a ransomware data breach attack that compromised data from its clients and customers.Â
The settlement class, which has been directly notified of the Morley Companies ransomware settlement, is defined as U.S. residents whose data was compromised during the data incident the defendant announced on or about Aug. 1, 2021. Morley notified more than 694,000 individuals of the data breach.
Morley Companies is a Michigan-based company that provides services such as business process outsourcing (such as customer help desks, sales and marking support), meetings, incentives exhibits and displays.
The information exposed during the breach included Social Security numbers, names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers and medical and health information.Â
Morley Companies denies wrongdoing but has agreed to the lawsuit settlement to mitigate the risks and costs of ongoing litigation.
Class members are eligible for reimbursements of up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket expenses associated with the data breach. The eligible out-of-pocket expenses include:
- Losses relating to fraud or identity theft
- Professional fees for attorneys, accounting or credit reporting agencies
- Costs associated with freezing and unfreezing credit
- Credit monitoring costs incurred from Aug. 1, 2021
- Miscellaneous expenses, such as notary, data charges, fax, postage, copying, mileage, etc.
Class members may also submit claims of $20 per hour for up to four hours of time lost as a result of the data breach.
California residents can submit a claim for $75 as compensation for statutory claims under California law. No documentation is required for class members to receive this benefit.
Those affected and eligible in the lawsuit will be given the opportunity to claim three years of credit monitoring and enroll with a password management service.
If any funds remain after all other reimbursements and costs have been deducted from the $4.3 million fund, the money will be used to extend credit monitoring. Any additional funds will be used to increase lost-time claim payments up to a maximum of $160.Â
If the net settlement fund is insufficient to cover the payment for the credit-monitoring services class members claim or are automatically awarded, the duration of the credit monitoring will be reduced to exhaust the settlement fund, and no funds will be distributed to claimants for out-of-pocket loss payments, lost-time payments or California statutory payments.
Class members who do nothing will not receive settlement benefits.Â
Those wishing to exclude themselves from the class action lawsuit may opt out by Feb. 7, 2023. Class members who opt out give up their standing to receive a payment from the class action suit, but retain their right to sue individually.Â
Class members may file an objection to the Morley Companies ransomware class action lawsuit settlement by Feb. 7, 2023.
Class members may file a claim online or by mail no later than March 20, 2023.

I’m sorry, but I do not know for sure that this pertains to us. The only thing that I remember around that time was that some how someone got our info and got a credit card using our card number and order 2 suits. The credit card co. took care of everything for us, all we did was to get cards replaced. If this pertains to what happen please let us know.
Es Puerto Rico elegible? Por qué uno recibe esta notificación?
I received the letter in my husbands name as he was the patient. My husband Jerry A. Zerbe died 7-17-2013 so I don’t feel that this settlement refers to me. It was his social security, driver’s license and other information that is out there
