Google+ settlement overview:

  • Who: Google agreed to a $350 million settlement in a lawsuit claiming a three-year software glitch exposed Google+ users’ personal data.
  • Why: The lawsuit alleged Google hid the data breach while publicly stressing its commitment to data security.
  • Where: The Google+ data breach settlement was filed in federal court in San Francisco.

Google agreed to a $350 million settlement in a lawsuit claiming a software glitch led to a data breach in which Google+ users’ personal data was exposed for three years, Reuters reports.

The lawsuit alleged Google knew about the data breach in March 2018 but did not acknowledge it while publicly stressing its commitment to data security.

U.S. District Judge Trina Thompson must now approve in federal court in San Francisco, according to Reuters.

Rhode Island Treasurer James Diossa filed the lawsuit, representing a state pension fund that owned Alphabet stock, Reuters says. The lawsuit also represents Alphabet shareholders from April 23, 2018, to April 30, 2019.

Settlement comes weeks after another Google settlement on user data

The Google settlement came weeks after another settlement in a lawsuit claiming the company tracked Chrome web browser users in private mode.

The parties did not disclose terms of the settlement. Chrome users previously sought $5 billion.

The Google settlement comes after five years of litigation in the case and Google’s unsuccessful attempt to appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, according to The Washington Post.

In January 2020, Google agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle claims arising from a data breach on its Google+ platform that potentially exposed users’ profile information to third-parties.

The Google+ data breach investors lawsuit is In re: Alphabet Inc. Securities Litigation, Case No. 3:18-cv-06245, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

I forgot to add in addition to TEMU ‘d stalking me on my Google App & Gmail email app, TEMU also invaded my Google App article about ALLEGED California Medicaid fraud. That wasn’t a Quote of the Day article , either . I feel TEMU already breached me because of the way TEMU is stalking me. I signed several previous class actions against Google on previous cellphones, no one ever contacted me . I wish they did. . In my former obsoleted LG & LG Leon cellphones I remember commenting to please add me. No one contacted me. 2026 now.

When I had previous cellphones I had Google too. I signed for Google Class Actions, no one ever got back to me. Now I have unwanted TEMU repeatedly harassing stalking me on on my Google App, Gmail on this cellphone. I dont trust TEMU I don’t want TEMU, I’m worried of TEMU stalking me. TEMU started on a former web group I was in on Facebook website , several members complained to moderator, TEMU was kicked out of that group. After that TEMU started stalking me on my Gmail email & Google App to the present Feb. 2026. My Gmail email gives me the option to have Google block TEMU, none of the blocks work because TEMU keeps making new ads that have to be blocked. TEMU recently started stalking me by invading my Google app in articles. Mostly the Quote of the Day articles . Articles quotes from Bruce Willis, Denzel Washington have TEMU ads stalking me about setting up my “office” I dont have an office. On Google App I have to click on dotted line to close the TEMU ad, then given the choice to choose “Ad Was Inappropriate”, “Seen ad multiple times” “As covered Intent” or “ Not interested in this ad”. It doesn’t stop TEMU from repeatedly stalking & harassing me on Google App & Gmail email App. Recently I was given a choice when emailing ??’s to TCA, to click on TEMU is Spam. Let’s see what happens today . I feel TEMU already breached me because TEMU keeps on following me . I wish somebody would’ve contacted me about joining the Google class action because I asked to join for years – before in previous cellphones.
